Our draft of the People, Communities, and Homes Investment Plan is available for public comment until Tuesday, September 24. This is the second edition of P-CHIP, and it will serve as a guiding document for HCD’s strategic five-year priorities and goals, as well as providing the framework for our community grantmaking activities.

In addition to the draft plan, HCD will hold a virtual community meeting to give the public an opportunity to comment on the draft plan. The session will be held, Tuesday, September 17, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

City of Tucson Receives $500,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant for the 29th Street Thrive Zone
The City of Tucson has been selected to receive a $500,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to further support the 29th Street Thrive Zone, an initiative that aims to transform the area from Alvernon to Craycroft and 22nd to Golf Links with investments in housing, infrastructure, and community resources.
This is the third highly competitive HUD Choice grant the City of Tucson has received for their two Thrive Zones, including two earlier grants for Thrive in the ’05 located in the 85705 Zip Code, and this grant for the 29th Street Thrive Zone. The Thrive approach goes beyond typical neighborhood planning and looks holistically at a place, identifying a vision to transform both the built environment and opportunities for residents to thrive through education, services, and jobs. The approach also integrates resident-driven strategies for crime reduction and public safety.

Volunteers, Donations, and Services Needed for Hope in the Park
The City of Tucson and Tucson Homeless Connect will hold Hope in the Park, a day-long resource fair to provide various resources for unsheltered individuals and families. Hope in the Park will be held at Rudy Garcia Park, 5001 S. Nogales Highway, southeast corner with Irvington Road, Friday October 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Homeless Connect and Housing First's Multidisciplinary Outreach Team (MDOT) are seeking 300 volunteers for a range of tasks: setup from 7-8:30 AM, registration and guides from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., general work from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and cleanup from 1-3 p.m.
This event will help individuals obtain services in health screening, behavioral health, VA benefits, food, shelter/housing, legal assistance, clothing, haircuts, animal care, and more.
