SENTINEL PEAK PARK TO CLOSE NEXT WEEK FOR REPAIR OF THE STRUCTURE OF THE 'A' - Sentinel Peak Park ('A' Mountain) will be closed to all traffic from Sept. 13-27. Crews will be working to repair the rock structure of the "A" on the mountain. During this time, no vehicular, bicycle, or pedestrian traffic will be allowed past the lower parking lot. Once the mountain reopens on Tuesday, Sept. 28, the City of Tucson will be piloting new operating hours. The park hours remain open from sunrise to sunset. There will be no vehicle access on Mondays. Vehicles can access the mountain from 2 p.m.-sunset, Tuesdays through Thursdays, and from 11 a.m.-sunset, Fridays through Sundays. Read the news release Sentinel Peak Park
REGISTRATION OPEN FOR TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION INDOOR FALL CLASSES - Tucson Parks and Recreation is offering a full array of indoor leisure classes this fall. Masks are required for all indoor activities for participants ages 2 and up. Classes range from arts and crafts, ceramics, dance, health and fitness, jewelry making, music, and more for youth and adults. Timely registration is recommended since offerings fill up quickly. EVICTION PREVENTION/EMERGENCY RENT AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE FUNDS STILL AVAILABLE - The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled to end the eviction moratorium, but applications are still being accepted for the Eviction Prevention Program in Tucson. The Mayor and Tucson City Council approved spending $27.1 million ($19.1 million from the City of Tucson and $8 million from Pima County) for the Tucson and Pima County Eviction Prevention/Emergency Rent and Utility Relief Program. Through the coordinated efforts of the City, Pima County, and the Community Investment Corporation, both tenants and landlords/property managers (acting on behalf of tenants) can apply for funds. Dual enrollment of tenants and landlords is accepted. Funding requests for unpaid rent and utilities are available for up to 12 months in arrears and three months in advance. COVID-19 UPDATE - Today's, Sept. 9, COVID-19 dashboard from the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) adds 2,480 new cases and 62 deaths. ADHS has an interactive map with vaccine distribution sites (link below), and there are multiple locations throughout Tucson. The fully approved Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine offers protection against a virus that continues hospitalizing and killing those who aren’t vaccinated. Full approvals of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are expected in the near future. So far, more than 4 million people in Arizona, or 56.5% of the population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 3.58 million people are fully vaccinated with both doses.
