MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEETINGS TOMORROW - Tucson's Mayor and Council will meet in Study Session tomorrow, June 8, at 2 p.m., and will meet again at 5:30 p.m. for its Regular Meeting. The meetings will again be held remotely and online. TUCSON DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND MOBILITY INITIATES OPERATION SPLASH - As weather patterns shift to bring moisture into Tucson, crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) Streets Maintenance Division will deliver barricades to hundreds of dip crossings throughout the city beginning today, June 7. Protecting the public on city streets during Tucson’s summer thunderstorm season is the objective of the Operation Splash campaign. Beginning Monday, June 14, DTM staff will be on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through mid-September. As washes flood, crews will close roadways at dip crossings and washes using more than 500 barricades near the crossings. DTM will also assist residents concerned with flooding by offering free, self-serve sandbags in the east parking lot of Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way, at Reid Park. TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION NEEDS MORE LIFEGUARDS FOR CITY POOLS - Tucson Parks and Recreation is still recruiting lifeguards for the summer pool season. A lifeguard must have proficient swimming abilities; knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques, and first aid; and be able to recognize hazardous situations and adopt effective courses of action. WEEKLY TRACK AND FIELD AND ROAD RACES EVENTS BEGIN TOMORROW - Tucson Parks and Recreation department is hosting its annual summer track and field and road races throughout June and July. Starting tomorrow, June 8, track and field events will be held Tuesdays, through July 20, at Palo Verde High School, 1302 S. Avenida Vega. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., with events starting at 7 p.m. Road races will take place every Thursday, June 10-July 22, at various locations. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with events starting at 6 p.m. Ribbons will be given to the top finishers at each track and field meet and each run. For more information, call (520) 791-4870.
