NEW HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP-OFF HOURS - The City of Tucson's Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) collects household hazardous waste (HHW) at the Los Reales Landfill, and the hours changed today, June 3. The facility is now open to residents for HHW collection on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. The program is free to City of Tucson residents, but anyone outside of city limits will be charged $10. To prove residency, you must show your Arizona Driver License or current utility bill. Small businesses that generate hazardous waste will be able to drop off materials on Wednesdays, but they must make an appointment ahead of time by calling (520) 791-4183. TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION WILL OFFER ROAD RACES AND TRACK AND FIELD THIS SUMMER - The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department is hosting its annual summer track and field and road races throughout June and July. Track and field events will be held Tuesdays, through July 20, at Palo Verde High School, 1302 S. Avenida Vega. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., with events starting at 7 p.m. Road races will take place every Thursday, June 10-July 22, at various locations. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with events starting at 6 p.m. Ribbons will be given to the top finishers at each track and field meet and each run. For more information, call (520) 791-4870. ENJOY COOL SUMMER FUN AT REID PARK ZOO DURING SUMMER SAFARI NIGHTS - Reid Park Zoo’s annual Summer Safari Nights program is back every Saturday, 5:30-8:30 p.m., through Aug. 15. Enjoy the Zoo during cooler evening temperatures, with events featuring live music from local bands, games, animal chats, wildlife activities, carousel rides, and themed evenings. Food and drink specials also will be available. The theme this Saturday night, June 5, is "Bird is the Word." Stroll through the Zoo's airy aviaries and hear from the bird care team and educators about all of our feathered friends. Learn about the big eyes of the ostriches and what the Zoo is doing to protect flamingos in the wild. Wear fun bird prints or your best birding gear to get in the spirit.
