REGISTRATION BEGINS THIS WEEKEND FOR PARKS AND RECREATION SUMMER PROGRAMS - Tucson Parks and Recreation will resume summer KIDCO, In-Betweener's Club, Jr. Staff in Training, and Therapeutic Recreation programs. Locations are available for viewing online at the link below. Timely registration is recommended, since program size will be limited, and summer offerings fill up quickly. Indoor activities will be limited to programs only. At this time, the centers will not be open for drop-in access. Residents can register beginning Saturday, May 15, at 6 a.m., and non-residents can register starting at noon. READY, SET, REC! VISITING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD - Tucson Parks and Recreation's Ready, Set, Rec! program is bringing a van to a park near you. Each of the six vans has standard play equipment, such as giant yard games, board games, cards, walking sticks, and hula hoops. Other modules that you could see at the program include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, STEM activities, sports, container gardening, fishing, Lotería, and more. ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS PUBLIC MEETINGS SCHEDULED - Several virtual public meetings are being held to learn about a proposed code change to allow backyard casitas (also known as Accessory Dwelling Units) in Tucson. Attend a meeting to hear how this housing option can provide affordable housing, help seniors age in place, and promote sustainable infill development. Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) staff will present a draft proposal for new zoning regulations to permit this housing type. This proposal was developed based on public meetings held earlier this year and input from a stakeholder group representing a range of viewpoints and expertise. ICYMI: PLANTING FOR THE FUTURE (VIDEO) - An Arbor Day celebration on April 30 in Tucson’s Ward Four led to the planting of more than 60 trees in Lincoln Park. The added shade to the soccer field was carried out through a partnership with the office of Vice Mayor Nikki Lee, Tucson Clean & Beautiful, Trees for Tucson, and Tucson Parks and Recreation. COVID-19 VACCINE SCHEDULING - COVID-19 vaccines are available to anyone 16 years old and up at Pfizer sites in Tucson and Pima County. Sites with the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are open to those at least 18 years old. The Arizona Department of Health Services has an interactive map with vaccine distribution sites (link below). So far, more than 3 million people in Arizona, or 42.6% of the population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 2.51 million people are fully vaccinated with both doses.
