FIRST NEW FIRE STATION TO BE BUILT WITH TUCSON DELIVERS SALES TAX FUNDS - The City of Tucson and the Tucson Delivers Program broke ground this morning on the new Fire Station 9, 6275 E. Eastland Street. The complete rebuild of the facility will be the first of five new Tucson Fire Department (TFD) stations that will be built with voter-approved Tucson Delivers sales tax funds. In May 2017, Tucson voters approved Proposition 101 (Tucson Delivers), a five-year, half-cent transaction sales tax to fund street improvements (Better Streets) and public safety investments (Safer City). Two separate citizens' commissions (the Bond Oversight Commission and the Public Safety Tax Oversight Commission) provide oversight of Tucson Delivers sales tax collection and expenditures. GAP ANALYSIS OF HOUSING MARKET STUDY AVAILABLE - The Housing Market Study’s third and final phase, the Gap Analysis, is available now for viewing. This phase of the Housing Market Study focuses on understanding gaps in the housing market by looking at existing demographics, household income levels, development trends, emerging household preferences, and economic indicators to understand unmet housing needs. The report is a result of evaluations of the Infill Incentive District in 2018 and 2019. Stakeholders expressed a better understanding of factors affecting the housing market in the downtown area, concerns regarding housing affordability and availability citywide, and direction from Mayor and Council. The Housing Market Study can help inform the development of a comprehensive affordable housing strategy to help meet current and future demand. The study is a partnership between the University of Arizona Eller College of Management’s Economic and Business Research Center, Pima County, and the City of Tucson.
