MAYOR ROMERO ANNOUNCES A $15,000 ARBOR DAY DONATION TO TUCSON MILLION TREES CAMPAIGN - Mayor Regina Romero has announced a $15,000 dollar donation from Swire Coca-Cola, USA to the Tucson Million Trees campaign. Funding from the local Coca-Cola bottler and distributor will be used to plant 300 trees on a 10,000 square-foot vacant, city-owned parcel in the Barrio Centro neighborhood. This area was identified due to its low tree canopy and heat vulnerability using the City of Tucson’s Tree Equity Score. The project will also include beautification improvements and green stormwater infrastructure features to provide a sustainable source of water for the trees. Neighborhood engagement will be conducted over the summer to collectively develop the project design, with a tree planting tentatively set for early October during the beginning of tree-planting season.
TUCSON WATER EXTENDED WATER OUTAGE THIS SUNDAY FOR SOME NW SIDE CUSTOMERS - Tucson Water is informing customers living in an area bounded by approximately Orange Grove Road to the north, Camino Padre Isidoro on the east, River Road on the south, and Oracle Road on the west of an extended water outage beginning Sunday, May 2, at 8:00 p.m. through 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 3. Tucson Water will be conducting repairs at the Devine Reservoir that will require a 14-hour water outage affecting water service to more than 1700 customers. Affected customers will be without water service for the duration of the work to replace a central electrical control panel. More than 1700 customers received a notification of the outage by mail this past weekend and were provided a map showing the outage boundaries. Bottled water will be available for customers living in the affected area and will be distributed at Casa Blanca Plaza, located on the northeast corner of Oracle Road and Rudasill Road. Customers picking up water are asked to provide verification of residence in the affected area, such as a copy of a Utility Services Statement, or the Notification Letter that was sent last week. Affected customers are encouraged to fill a bathtub with water to use for flushing toilets and for any other household uses. After water service is restored, affected customers are advised to flush their water line from the outdoor spigot closest to their meter, and at faucets inside their home to help remove air from the distribution lines. Updates will be provided at tucson/az.gov/water – Water Outages and Advisories.
