SURVEY OPEN FOR GENE C. REID PARK AND REID PARK ZOO COMMUNITY CONVERSATION - A survey is now open for the community to see and learn about eight concepts regarding the Reid Park Zoo expansion and possible changes to Gene C. Reid Park, weigh in on each concept, and offer any other ideas not covered by those presented. The concepts are based on input from the Core Stakeholder Group, the Reid Park Zoo Master Plan for expansion, and City of Tucson staff. The survey can be taken online in both English and Spanish until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13. CITY LEADERS HOST LISTENING SESSION ON VIOLENCE AGAINST ASIANS - In recent weeks, there have been reports of assaults on members of the Asian community in the United States. To discuss the troubling trend, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and Ward 6 Council Member Steve Kozachik are hosting a virtual Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American (APIDA) listening session on Wednesday, from 6-7:30 p.m. UA Asian Pacific American Advisory Council members and APIDA community leaders (Jasmine Chan, Ceci Lou Alter, Dr. Daisy Rodriguez Pitel, and Dr. Naomi Story) will be moderating the conversation. The event will allow a safe space for members of the local Asian community to share their thoughts and experiences. People who do not identify as APIDA are welcome to attend and listen. NEW VACCINE POD OPEN AT EL PUEBLO CENTER - Pima County, which is supporting three large vaccination sites at Banner-South Kino Stadium, Tucson Medical Center, and the Tucson Convention Center (TCC), just opened a new, smaller Point of Distribution (POD) at El Pueblo Center, 101 W. Irvington Road. This is a walk-in POD with on-site registration for the Moderna vaccine. In addition, on-site registration also is available at the Tucson Convention Center. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Please note that the TCC and El Pueblo can only vaccinate 18-year-olds and up, as those sites only administer the Moderna vaccine. People age 16 and 17 can only be vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, and that is not available at the TCC or El Pueblo. See the links in the next story for registration information for all sites. COVID-19 MONDAY UPDATE AND VACCINE SCHEDULING - As of today, April 5, Arizona now has 844,910 positive coronavirus cases, with 608 new cases reported today (up from 464 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 113,102 cases are in Pima County (up 30 from yesterday). There have been 16,990 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (0 reported today), and 2,359 of those occurred in Pima County (0 reported today). Meanwhile, if you want a COVID-19 vaccine at a Pima County site, you can register online at the link below. Help is also available in English and Spanish by calling (520) 222-0119 for those who are unable to make an online appointment. To register at the state-run University of Arizona site, follow the state/UA link below, or call (844) 542-8201. So far, more than 2.35 million people in Arizona, or 32.7% of the population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while more than 1.47 million are fully vaccinated with both doses.
