COVID-19 THURSDAY UPDATE AND VACCINE SCHEDULING - As of today, April 1, Arizona now has 842,192 positive coronavirus cases, with 381 new cases reported today (down from 733 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 112,707 cases are in Pima County (up 30 from yesterday). There have been 16,977 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (10 reported today), and 2,350 of those occurred in Pima County (-1 reported today after a data revision). Meanwhile, if you want a COVID-19 vaccine at a Pima County site, you can check the eligibility list and register online at the link below. Help is also available in English and Spanish by calling (520) 222-0119 for those who are unable to make an online appointment. The state-run University of Arizona site serves those 16 years old and up. To register for that site, follow the state/UA link below, or call (844) 542-8201. So far, more than 2.16 million people in Arizona, or 30.1% of the population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while more than 1.35 million are fully vaccinated with both doses. PUBLIC SAFETY CAREER FAIR NEXT WEEK - Are you interested in a career in public safety? The Tucson Police, Tucson Fire, and Public Safety Communications departments are hosting a joint Public Safety Career Fair on Tuesday, April 6, from 4-7 p.m., at the Westside Police Service Center, 1310 W. Miracle Mile. This event will be held outdoors as a COVID-19 safety precaution. Representatives from all the public safety agencies will be on hand to answer questions related to careers, the application process, and the hiring timeline. NATIONAL MAYORS' CHALLENGE FOR WATER CONSERVATION - Throughout the month of April, residents in cities across the nation are pledging to save water and other natural resources in a friendly competition to win eco-friendly prizes. Winning cities are those with the highest percentage of residents participating in the challenge. Prizes include a grand prize of $3,000 in utility payments, “Green Your Home” cleaning kits, water-saving fixtures, and more. In addition, a community charity can win a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. CITY SELLING HOME COMPOST BINS - For Earth Day this year, the City's Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) is selling compost bins through BrandBuilders, LLC. Use the online store (link below) to purchase your compost bin and pick it up at the City's Earth Day Drive-Thru event on April 24, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Donna Liggins Recreation Center, 2160 N. 6th Ave. You can pre-order trees and rain barrels from Tucson Clean & Beautiful to pick up on that day (link below), and there also will be giveaways and fun activities at neighboring Mansfield Park. PATHWAY TO PURCHASE PROGRAM RETURNS - The Industrial Development Authorities (IDAs) of the City of Tucson and Pima County, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Housing, have brought back the successful Pathway to Purchase (P2P) program, which helped hundreds of individuals and families purchase homes in the Tucson area from 2016-18. Under the program, qualifying homebuyers earning less than $54,720 a year can receive down payment assistance equal to 10% of the purchase price, up to $20,000, when they obtain a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage for an owner-occupied, primary residence (price not to exceed $439,860) in target ZIP code areas in Tucson, South Tucson, Green Valley, Sahuarita, and Vail.
