CITY COMPOST FACILITY RIBBON CUTTING
The City of Tucson's Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) opened a compost facility at the Los Reales Landfill about two months ago. The department is collecting food scraps from commercial businesses across the city and taking it to this facility.
This FoodCycle program is made possible through a partnership with The University of Arizona (UArizona) Compost Cats. Students from UArizona work with FoodCycle customers to make sure they are composting the correct items to cut back on contamination.
To celebrate the official opening of the facility, EGSD is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony. Masks are required and attendance will be limited due to COVID-19.
Members from the media are welcome to attend to take video and photos of the event.
When: April 6, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Los Reales Landfill (enter from Swan Road)
Guest Speakers: UArizona President Robert C. Robbins, City of Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, and EGSD Director Carlos De La Torre
