TUCSON CITY COUNCIL AND PIMA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS HOLD JOINT MEETING TOMORROW - The Mayor and Tucson City Council and the Pima County Board of Supervisors will meet in a joint session tomorrow, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, to discuss issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic response. As part of pandemic precautions, the meeting will be conducted virtually, and it will not be open for public attendance. However, public comments are being accepted via email to COB_mail@pima.gov. COVID-19 THURSDAY UPDATE AND VACCINE SCHEDULING - As of today, Feb. 18, Arizona now has 802,198 positive coronavirus cases, with 1,143 new cases reported today (down from 1,351 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 107,582 cases are in Pima County (up 181 from yesterday). There have been 15,276 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (213 reported today), and 2,119 of those occurred in Pima County (37 reported today). Meanwhile, if you're eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine at a Pima County site (65-years-old and up, prioritized essential workers, public safety, and teachers/educators/child care workers), you can register online at the link below. Help is also available in English and Spanish by calling (520) 222-0119 for those who are unable to make an online appointment. WARD 3 NEIGHBORHOOD WEBINAR SERIES: SUCCESSFULLY CONNECTING NEIGHBORS - The Ward 3 Tucson City Council Office is hosting additional webinars designed to help neighborhoods in the COVID-19 era. Anyone interested is welcome to participate, even if they don't live in Ward 3. The next session will be held tonight, Feb. 18, at 5:30 p.m., which will focus on how an event can engage neighbors and the proper way to promote it. The webinar series will continue through March 4. The next webinar will be Monday, Feb. 22, from 3-4 p.m. In this edition, hear from Black-owned business leaders in Tucson as they share insights and stories from the past year and fresh perspectives for 2021. ICYMI: TWO MORE GIRAFFES JOIN REID PARK ZOO (VIDEO) - Meet Penelope and Sota, Reid Park Zoo’s very tall additions. The young, reticulated giraffes came from Como Park Zoo in Minnesota. They are joining Reid Park Zoo’s two adult giraffes, including Denver, who recently celebrated her 32nd birthday. The median life expectancy of her species is around 19 years old.
