MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEETINGS TODAY - Tucson's Mayor and Council is meeting today, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m., in Study Session, and the body will meet again at 5:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19, the meetings will again be held remotely and online. COVID-19 WEDNESDAY UPDATE AND POP-UP TESTING - As of today, Jan. 20, Arizona now has 690,544 positive coronavirus cases, with 4,845 new cases reported today (down from 6,746 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 92,519 cases are in Pima County (up 779 from yesterday). There have been 11,528 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (262 reported today), and 1,495 of those occurred in Pima County (73 reported today). Meanwhile, the City's pop-up testing locations are available on a walk-up basis only. No appointment is necessary. The free, saliva tests are administered by Rescue Me Wellness, and results are available in 3-5 days. For a full list of times and locations, follow the testing link below. CITY OF TUCSON AWARDED FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION GRANT - The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) $600,000 to develop operational solutions that address challenges faced by public transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds are from the FTA’s Public Transportation COVID-19 Research Demonstration Grant Program and were awarded to 37 projects nationwide. DTM, working in partnership with Sun Tran, will use the funds to upgrade fare payment systems to allow riders to use mobile and other touchless fare payment options. The grant money also will be used to install automated wheelchair securing systems on buses to allow riders to secure themselves, reducing contact with operators and improving mobility, confidence, and independence. 2021 FOURTH AVENUE SPRING STREET FAIR CANCELED - Organizers of the Fourth Avenue Street Fair say the 2021 spring edition will not happen this year due to the coronavirus. As of now, the North Fourth Avenue Merchants Association says the 2021 Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair is scheduled for Dec. 10-12. North Fourth Avenue Merchants Association
REMINDER: FACE COVERINGS REQUIRED ON TRANSIT - All passengers are required to use a face covering, mask, or face shield while riding in public transit vehicles and at transit centers. Passengers can wear non-medical masks, cloths, bandannas, and scarves. Sun Tran, Sun Link, Sun Van, and Sun Shuttle have the right to refuse a ride to passengers not wearing a mask. Sun Tran has a limited supply of masks at the Ronstadt and Laos Transit Center information booths (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.), while supplies last. Passengers who are 5 years old and under are exempt from the mask mandate. Sun Tran and Sun Van operators also are required to wear a mask or shield at all times.
