TWO CITY DEPARTMENTS ACHIEVE STATE SAFETY RECOGNITION - The City of Tucson's Water department and Tucson Parks and Recreation last week became the 11th and 12th Arizona jurisdictions to enter into the Public Entity Participation Program (P.E.P.P.) with the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH). This three-year agreement is based on consultation with ADOSH to continuously improve workplace safety and health. Under the leadership of Water Director/Interim Park's Director Tim Thomure, the departments are leading the way for other departments in the City in achieving Target Zero. Target Zero - Get Home Safe is an employee-based and employee-focused City of Tucson safety, health, and wellness initiative coordinated by The Safety Group. The foundation of Target Zero is part of ADOSH's framework and is a major component of the P.E.P.P. agreement. Target Zero will officially kick off before the end of this year. The program's goals include reducing injuries by 15%; implementing best practices; increasing worker involvement; enhancing communication between management, employees, and ADOSH; and starting the process for OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program. REID PARK ZOO WELCOMES FOUR NEW RESIDENTS - Reid Park Zoo recently announced the addition of African wild dogs. This critically endangered species is recognizable by the unique mottled coloration on their body and giant ears. These wild dogs live in packs, working together to hunt, avoid predators, and raise their families. They are found in savannahs and open arid habitats in Africa. The Zoo’s four African wild dogs are an all-female pack and a subset of a pack from the Oregon Zoo. Their names are Grommie (short for Grommet), Cricket, Terra (short for Terracotta), and Sandy. The dogs are siblings and celebrated their second birthday on Nov. 11. The wild dogs will be one of the first animals that guests see during their visits to the Zoo, as their habitat is just to the left of the entrance.
