COVID-19 MONDAY UPDATE - As of today, Oct. 26, Arizona now has 238,964 positive coronavirus cases, with 801 new cases reported today (down from 1,392 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 27,575 cases are in Pima County (up 91 from yesterday). There have been 5,875 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (1 reported today), and 636 of those occurred in Pima County (0 reported today). Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and more. The site is updated as information evolves. WEBSITE LAUNCH AND UPCOMING VIRTUAL TOWN HALLS FOR P-CHIP - The People, Communities, and Homes Investment Plan (P-CHIP) creates a framework for investing in Tucson's most vulnerable populations. This plan will direct funding for homeless services, housing stability, neighborhood enhancements, and more. The plan is built on past community plans, current data, and broad public outreach. The P-CHIP identifies priorities eligible for support from Tucson's federal and local human services funds, which are administered by the City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development Department. The upcoming virtual public meetings will take place Thursday, Oct. 29, beginning at 6 p.m., and Friday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. These meetings will provide an overview of the P-CHIP plan, why it is important, and will feature a demonstration of the survey/participatory budget tool. CITY’S BUSINESS SERVICES DEPARTMENT RECEIVES NATIONAL PROCUREMENT AWARD OF EXCELLENCE - The City of Tucson’s Business Services Department has received the distinguished Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) award for the 25th consecutive year, one of only five agencies nationwide to do so. The AEP award is from the National Procurement Institute, in partnership with 11 professional sponsor organizations. It measures innovation, e-procurement, productivity, and leadership attributes in public procurement. The award is dedicated to establishing and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, education, certification, development, leadership, and ethics. GET YOUR FLU SHOT SOON (VIDEO) - Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, City Council Member Richard Fimbres, and City Manager Michael Ortega gathered last week at the Theresa Lee Public Health Center to get their flu shots. The seasonal flu, combined with the COVID-19 pandemic, could lead to a “twindemic,” and City leaders are recommending residents schedule their free flu shots.
