COVID-19 WEDNESDAY UPDATE SHOWS UPTICK IN CASES - As of today, Oct. 14, Arizona now has 227,635 positive coronavirus cases, with 902 new cases reported today (up from 683 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 26,632 cases are in Pima County (up 116 from yesterday). There have been 5,772 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (5 reported today), and 633 of those occurred in Pima County (0 reported today). Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and more. The site is updated as information evolves. VOLUNTEER FOR THE ANNUAL BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN COUNT - Pima Association of Governments (PAG) is looking for volunteers to help with the annual bicycle and pedestrian count. Opportunities are available now through Oct. 29. Every fall, volunteers help count people biking and walking at key locations across the city. The data gathered helps planners identify areas of high need for biking and walking safety improvements. SHRED-IT EVENT TO BENEFIT LEND A HAND - Tucson City Council Member Paul Durham's Ward 3 office and the Pima County Constables office are hosting a Shred-It event on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 8-10 a.m. The event will take place at Jacobs Park, 3300 N. Fairview. There is a limit of two boxes for a suggested donation of $5 to benefit Lend A Hand Senior Assistance, Inc. Lend A Hand offers support to help keep seniors in their homes by training and coordinating neighborhood volunteers who provide free services. Social distancing and masking will be practiced at the Shred-It event, and if you do not have a mask one will be provided to you for free. TUGO BIKE SHARE OFFERS FREE RIDES EVERY THURSDAY IN OCTOBER - The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) and the Tugo Bike Share operating company (Shift Transit) are offering Free Ride Thursdays during the month of October, thanks to program sponsor El Rio Health. The free pass gives users access to unlimited 30-minute station-to-station trips for 24 consecutive hours. In an effort to prioritize health and safety, Tugo Bike Share has ramped up its cleaning during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as bikes are regularly in use and exposed to the environment, Tugo Bike Share says the best way to prevent possible infection is to clean your bike before use. CITY RECRUITING GREEN STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM MANAGER - The City of Tucson is seeking an innovative leader who will provide leadership and management of a multi-disciplinary municipal green infrastructure program. The green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) program manager will play a critical role in the City's efforts to develop a climate-resilient and sustainable community. The position will be responsible for programming a new fund of more than $3 million dedicated to building and maintaining GSI in streets, parks, and public properties throughout City neighborhoods.
