COVID-19 MONDAY UPDATE SHOWS NO NEW DEATHS - As of today, Oct. 12, Arizona now has 226,050 positive coronavirus cases, with 475 new cases reported today (down from 597 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 26,465 cases are in Pima County (up 63 from yesterday). There have been 5,759 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (0 reported today), and 633 of those occurred in Pima County (0 reported today). Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and more. The site is updated as information evolves. WEBINAR TODAY FOR ‘NAVIGATING THE IMPACTS OF COVID-19 FOR SMALL BUSINESSES’ - The City of Tucson's Office of Economic Initiatives (ConnectTucson) is inviting local businesses to join a free webinar today, Oct. 12, from 3-4 p.m., on the latest help for small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. EGSD KICKS OFF RECYCLING VIDEO SERIES - Starting today, Oct. 12, The Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) is running social media videos on recycling. EGSD wants residents to recycle plastic bottles; jugs, and containers; paper and cardboard; aluminum and metal cans; and glass bottles and jars. Each week, the videos will focus on a different material. This week's videos will be about recycling plastics. Today's video is called Plastic 101 and shows the types of plastics accepted in the City of Tucson's recycling program. SIGN UP FOR OUTDOOR RECREATION CLASSES - Tucson Parks and Recreation is offering more leisure classes outdoors this fall. Classes will be held at Gene C. Reid Park, Morris K. Udall Park, and Purple Heart Park. Some adult classes include Tai Chi, Total Body Conditioning, and Line Dancing. REID PARK ZOO UPDATE (VIDEO) - Back in March, Reid Park Zoo closed its gates in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Thanks to a rigorous cleaning schedule using approved disinfectants, the Zoo passed a Pima County Health Department inspection.
