WE ARE ONE|SOMOS UNO RESILIENCY FUND SMALL BUSINESS UTILITY ASSISTANCE GRANTS OPEN OCT. 5 - The Small Business Utility Assistance grant program will start accepting applications Monday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m. Mayor Regina Romero and the Tucson City Council recently approved $1 million in federal CARES Act funds to help small businesses (with fewer than 50 employees) pay their utility bills. Eligible businesses must have faced economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency. Preference will be given to small businesses that did not receive assistance from other programs and to businesses owned by women, minorities, veterans, disabled, and otherwise disadvantaged groups to increase the equitable dispersion of grant funds throughout the City of Tucson and the City of South Tucson. The Women's Business Center of the YWCA Southern Arizona will administer the Small Business Utility Assistance Grants. Follow the links below for more information. COVID-19 WEEK OF MOURNING NEXT WEEK - Oct. 4-11 is National Week of Mourning for the victims of COVID-19 (see latest numbers in the story below). Ward 6 Tucson City Council Member Steve Kozachik and his staff will commemorate the week at Himmel Park on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m., with a brief ceremony to remember and honor those we've lost. There will be music from Tucson Fire Department bagpiper Joey Crandall, followed by a short reflection brought by Rabbi Scott Saulson. Small American flags will be planted, with one displayed for each person who has lost their life in Pima County since COVID-19 struck. Following the ceremony, people are invited to place a photo of a loved one at the base of one of the flags to honor their passing. Please respect the reason for this event by wearing a mask and maintaining a safe social distance from others outside of your group. The memorial will remain in place throughout next week to allow people to stop by individually to honor those we've lost. Read the Ward 6 news release
