COVID-19 WEDNESDAY UPDATE AND NEW DESIGNATION FOR PIMA COUNTY - As of today, Sept. 30, Arizona now has 218,507 positive coronavirus cases, with 323 new cases reported today (down from 675 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 25,628 cases are in Pima County (up 59 from yesterday). There have been 5,650 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (18 reported today), and 620 of those occurred in Pima County (-1 reported today after a data revision). Meanwhile, the Arizona Department of Health Services reports Pima County is again at "substantial risk" for the spread of COVID-19. However, state health officials said Tuesday that they will not order any businesses to close again. MEET TUCSON FIRE CHIEF CHUCK RYAN AND GET A FREE TUCSON ROADRUNNERS MASK TONIGHT - Tucson Fire Chief Chuck Ryan will be greeting people at the next Dusty's Drive-In to help give away Tucson Roadrunners masks. The drive-thru event will be held tonight, Sept. 30, from 5-6:30 p.m., at the Tucson Convention Center (Lot B). Please bring a can of food for each mask to help the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. For convenience and safety, fans are asked to stay in their vehicles throughout the process and wear their current face coverings when collecting their new ones and donating food. TUGO BIKE SHARE OFFERS FREE RIDES EVERY THURSDAY IN OCTOBER - The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), in partnership with the Tugo Bike Share operating company (Shift Transit), just announced Free Ride Thursdays during the month of October, thanks to program sponsor El Rio Health. The free pass gives users access to unlimited 30-minute station-to-station trips for 24 consecutive hours. In an effort to prioritize health and safety, Tugo Bike Share has ramped up its cleaning during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as bikes are regularly in use and exposed to the environment, Tugo says the best way to prevent possible infection is to clean your bike before use. JOB OPPORTUNITY: PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST TRAINEE - The City of Tucson is hiring public safety communications specialist I - trainees (civilian position) to work in the Public Safety Communications Center. Trainees will learn how to answer 911 calls and serve as the first line of communication between the Tucson community and Tucson Police and Fire services. They will be responsible for receiving both emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance from the public and passing critical information to Police and Fire dispatchers. The Thrive Resource Café is a half-hour livestream taking place every Tuesday through Thursday on Facebook and Zoom. The cafés highlight various community partners and resources available to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the Thrive Resource Café from July 28, Candice Rupprecht, the water conservation program manager, spoke about low-income bill assistance, conservation programs, and water-saving tips.
