CITYWIDE #MASKUPTUCSON FREE MOBILE MASK DISTRIBUTION - Thanks to the Mayor and Tucson City Council, the City is hosting mobile mask giveaway events at multiple locations and times throughout the community as an opportunity for residents to obtain washable face coverings for themselves and their families. The first event will be tomorrow, Sept. 17, from 5-7 p.m., at the Quincie Douglas Center parking lot, 1575 E. 36th St. Wearing a face covering is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19, along with proper hand-washing and practicing social/physical distancing. The Mayor and Tucson Council is committed to keeping our community safe and has thousands of washable ear loop cloth masks to help those who have not been able to get them. Adult and child sizes will be available, and the child size has adjustable ear pieces that can easily fit a small adult. For more information and a list of locations, please follow the link below. COVID-19 WEDNESDAY UPDATE SHOWS ANOTHER SLIGHT UPTICK IN NUMBERS - As of today, Sept. 16, Arizona now has 209,907 positive coronavirus cases, with 695 new cases reported today (up from 484 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 22,887 cases are in Pima County (up 244 from yesterday). There have been 5,371 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (27 reported today), and 602 of those occurred in Pima County (1 reported today). Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and more. The site is updated as information evolves. HOUGHTON ROAD-VALENCIA ROAD TO MARY ANN CLEVELAND WAY VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETING TONIGHT - The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) invite you to attend a virtual pre-construction public meeting for the Houghton Road Improvement Project from Valencia Road to Mary Ann Cleveland Way. The meeting will be held tonight, Sept. 16, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The project team will present information on the work, construction timeline, and traffic impacts. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session allowing for public participation. For those unable to attend, the meeting will be recorded and available on the project's website. JOIN THE COMMISSION ON EQUITABLE HOUSING AND DEVELOPMENT - At the direction of the Mayor and Tucson City Council, the City of Tucson is forming and seeking candidates for the Commission on Equitable Housing and Development (CEHD). City of Tucson employees are not eligible to apply, but they can attend the meetings, which are virtual for now. The commission will focus on increasing City investment in housing, preserving affordability while increasing housing production/stock, facilitating equitable conversations, and much more. Expectations of the commission are to review data (quantitative and qualitative), needs assessments, and additional information to explore strategies and develop recommendations for Mayor and Council consideration in key focus areas. RAINWATER HARVESTING GRANTS AND LOANS AVAILABLE - Are you interested in collecting rainwater on your property to shade your home, grow your garden, and support water conservation efforts in Tucson? For Tucson Water's residential customers with limited-incomes, the Sonora Environmental Research Institute (SERI) provides a no-interest loan to pay for rainwater harvesting systems over time. For those who qualify, SERI also offers a grant. SERI will act as the liaison to help with the full program process, including the initial plan, scope of work, paperwork, purchasing materials, hiring contractors, and submitting the rebate to Tucson Water.
