Director's View

By Jackson Jenkins

The holiday season is here! And it seems to come around faster and faster with each passing year.  I’ll start with the good news! As of Nov. 15, 335 of our 373 employees have been vaccinated against Covid-19, a 90 percent vaccination rate.

Given that we are a large Department, I am pleased with that number, and with everything you have done to protect yourself, your families, your co-workers, and your community from this infectious disease. If, you have not received your shot(s), please consider getting vaccinated. There is still enough time to receive some of the remaining incentives the County has offered.

Safe Holiday Decorating Tips

The holidays have snuck up on us once again, and ‘tis the season to talk about holiday safety.

Every year, emergency rooms treat thousands of patients for decorating injuries during the months of November and December.  Most of them are falls, cuts, and back strains.  The National Safety Council has some good tips on decorating safely.

Intranet

New & improved INTRANET

RWRD has a new and improved Intranet.  That’s INTRANET, RWRD’s restricted network that enables staff within the department to store, organize, and share information internally. The INTERNET, by comparison, is a public network with multiple users, used to connect global networks of computers simultaneously.

You will notice that the new intranet looks more polished, cleaner, and easier to use. Please note, however, that some revisions to the old intranet are still underway and will be completed soon.

GIS

National GIS Day

During “normal” years, on the third Wednesday of each November, Pima County holds an annual celebration called Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day. Unfortunately, for the second year in a row now, the event has been cancelled. But even though we can't get together for the event, we can still recognize what GIS is, and what it does for us.

Max DiSante

CRAO welcomes new Program Manager

The Compliance and Regulatory Affairs Office (CRAO) is pleased to welcome Max DiSante as new Program Manager. DiSante was with RWRD in the Technical Services and Engineering Division Organic Chemistry Lab for three and a half years prior to his promotion.

He started his professional career in the private sector at an environmental laboratory as a chemist, and then as laboratory manager and worked there for seven years prior to coming to RWRD. Currently, he spends most of his time learning the deep underbelly of the regulatory, permitting, and enforcement side of CRAO. Most of his experience had been with the analytical/laboratory side of compliance, which only scratches at the surface of what CRAO is responsible for.

RWRAC Meeting Update

At the Nov. 18 Regional Wastewater Reclamation Advisory Committee (RWRAC) meeting members learned that future RWRAC meetings will be hybrid in nature, allowing for members to participate in person, or via TEAMS calls. However, due to the continued risks of COVID-19, all those attending in-person must be fully vaccinated, practice social distancing, and wear a mask.
