Halloween Safety Tips
As families come together for Halloween, the Mesa Fire and Medical Department reminds everyone to make safety a priority. If not used carefully, decorations, costumes and holiday lights can cause fires or injuries.Â
For a safer Halloween, use battery-powered candles in pumpkins and decorations instead of real flames. Choose flame-resistant costumes and make sure kids carry flashlights or glow sticks so they can be seen while trick-or-treating at night.Â
Keep Halloween safe for your furry friends as well.
- Keep candy, wrappers and trash out of reach.
- Give pets a quiet space away from the festivities. Costumes, doorbells and trick-or-treaters can be overwhelming for your pet.
- Be mindful when opening the door to trick-or-treaters to prevent escapes.
- Keep an eye on Halloween decorations, candlesand cords especially for curious chewers.

CO poisoning symptoms can resemble the flu, but without a fever. Watch for:
- Headaches
- Nausea

- Seek medical attention if symptoms are present.
- Call 911 and our emergency hotline at 480-644-4277.

Canyon Lake Temporarily Closed for Critical Dam Maintenance
You may have seen the signs or heard the news that access to Canyon Lake is temporarily closed during the Canyon Lake Drawdown Project. SRP and the Bureau of Reclamation are inspecting and maintaining critical dam infrastructure to help ensure safe dam operations, flood control and reliable water delivery for more than 2.5 million Valley residents.
As part of the project, Canyon Lake is being lowered by 54 feet to allow access to normally submerged portions of Mormon Flat and Horse Mesa dams. This work is performed about every 20 years and will not affect water deliveries to customers. All water released during the project is being used to serve customers.
The project, which started on Sept. 16, will last approximately 16 weeks.
