Household Hazardous Materials Facility for Items Too Toxic to Trash!

HHM Drive-Thru

Open Wednesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Many common household items don't belong in your trash or recycle barrel – and definitely not down the drain. Instead, bring them to Mesa’s Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) Facility for safe reuse, recycling, or disposal. Our convenient drive-thru makes drop-off quick and easy. And don’t forget to check out our Swap Shop, where you can pick up usable items for free!

NOTE: The HHM Facility does not accept prescription drugs and other medications. However, Mesa offers MedReturn boxes at four Police Stations. Learn more.


Mesa Urban Garden Designated a USDA People's Garden.

Mesa Urban Garden, at 212 E. 1st Avenue, is a vibrant downtown space recently designated as a USDA People’s Garden – recognized for growing healthy food, benefiting the community, and using sustainable practices. You (or your organization) can sponsor a garden bed where fresh produce is grown for United Food Bank. Stroll by to enjoy colorful murals, a Little Library (donate your books), and our desert-friendly landscape out front with bioswales that capture and filter stormwater. Your support helps us grow food, community, and connection. MUG leases beds annually but currently has a waitlist. Call or text our Garden Coordinator Laurie Blitz at 480-202-3022 to sponsor a bed, donate books, or learn more.


Climate Action Plan

Mesa's Climate Action Plan calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and establishing strategies to increase sustainability in our community. Residents and businesses can become more climate ready with guidance from our six focus areas of Energy, Heat Mitigation, Air Quality, Water Stewardship, Materials Management and Food Systems.
