April 2025
Hello!
Spring has arrived in full bloom, and with it comes exciting developments for our community. Mesa's Spring Training season was a tremendous success, with the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners setting a new attendance record of 16,161 fans on March 8th. These events continue to highlight Mesa as a premier destination for sports and tourism, bringing valuable economic activity to our local businesses.
I recently had the privilege of attending the National League of Cities (NLC) Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C., where I connected with municipal leaders from across the country to discuss challenges and opportunities facing our cities. As your representative on the NLC Transportation & Infrastructure Services committee, I remain committed to ensuring Mesa continues to be a safe community for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike. As a member of Mesa's Sustainability and Transportation Committee, I've also been closely involved with Mesa's ongoing efforts to reduce fatal crashes through the implementation of enhanced safety measures, as highlighted in recent coverage by the East Valley Tribune. These initiatives are crucial as we work toward goals of creating a more accessible Mesa for everyone.
April marks the beginning of budget season, when all City departments will present their proposed budgets for the upcoming fiscal year. I encourage all residents to participate in this important process by tuning into our Study Sessions and Council Meetings for the latest financial updates. Your input is invaluable as we make decisions that will shape the future of our city. Our meeting calendar, agendas and presentations are readily available at https://mesa.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx, and you can watch meetings live at mesa11.com. We are also planning to host two public input and education events in May so keep an eye out for information about those events as the date gets nearer.
Here's to a safe and sunny spring,
Councilmember Alicia Goforth

 National Safe Digging Month
Celebrate Safe Digging Month with us! April is the perfect time to tackle your outdoor projects. Remember to notify Arizona 811 at least two full working days before you start digging to have underground utility lines located and marked. The depths of utility lines vary, and multiple lines may exist in the same area. This simple step can help prevent injuries, property damage, and service outages. Once you’ve called 8-1-1:
- Wait until you receive responses from all the facilities listed on your ticket to begin digging.
- Hand-dig within two feet of marked facilities, supporting and protecting exposed facilities.
- Keep all locate marks visible and valid (15 days) for the duration of your project.
Remember, safety is everyone’s responsibility. Contacting Arizona 811 is easy, free, and it’s the law. Learn more at arizona811.com.

Fire Hydrant Painting
Painted fire hydrants provide higher visibility for fire crews when responding to fires and also improve the aesthetics to neighborhoods. Having volunteers paint hydrants allows fire department members to continue to attend to their duties such as business inspections, pre-plans, public safety presentations as well as responding to fire and medical emergencies. Having volunteers paint hydrants provides significant cost-savings to our City. Click below to get started!
