March 2025
Hello!
Spring Training season has arrived in Mesa, bringing with it the crack of bats and cheers from Sloan Park and Hohokam Stadium! Cubs and Athletics fans from across the country have once again made the trip to our beautiful city, filling our restaurants, hotels and shopping centers with energy and enthusiasm. I hope you make the time to spend a day at the ballpark with family and friends!
As we welcome visitors to experience what makes Mesa special, we're also preparing to say farewell to a remarkable leader. After 19 years of dedicated service, City Manager Chris Brady will soon retire. Under his guidance, Mesa has transformed dramatically—from the expansion of our light rail system to the revitalization of downtown, the development of Mesa Gateway Airport and the attraction of major employers like Apple and Google. Chris's steady leadership through economic challenges and periods of growth has positioned Mesa as a premier destination for both families and businesses.
This week, the City Council voted to appoint Scott Butler as our next City Manager effective June 1st. Scott's extensive experience with the city positions him well to continue building on the strong foundation Chris has established.
As we continue to embrace all the exciting changes and celebrations in our city, I want to thank you for being part of what makes Mesa truly special. The strength of our community comes from residents like you who participate in local events, support our businesses and take pride in our city's growth and development.
I look forward to seeing many of you around town in the coming weeks, especially as we welcome more beautiful weather and all the outdoor activities it brings.
Wishing you all a wonderful month ahead,
Councilmember Alicia Goforth

Mesa College Promise Application Opens March 1
We are dedicated to making higher education accessible through the Mesa College Promise, ensuring that eligible residents can attend Mesa Community College for two years with fully funded Arizona resident tuition and registration fees.
This program supports students with demonstrated financial need who have not received enough federal student aid (FAFSA) or scholarships to cover tuition costs. To get started, attend an MCC FAFSA Workshop, where experienced financial aid advisors provide hands-on assistance.

I had a blast ringing in the Spring Training season with Mayor Freeman, my fellow Councilmembers and Clark, the Chicago Cubs mascot. We even got to sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame on the field during the 7th inning stretch!
|
I had the opportunity to attend the Urban Land Institute's annual Trends Day conference with Councilmember Duff. We heard the latest insights from developers and industry professionals about creating strong and attractive communities for families and businesses alike. I look forward to bringing these new ideas to Mesa as we continue to grow and prosper!

Thank you to Cunningham Aviation and the Arizona Aviation Historical Group for hosting An Evening with an Astronaut. It was so inspiring to hear from Colonel Mike Mullane about his time as a U.S. Air Force combat pilot and NASA astronaut.

I had the honor of signing the final beam for the new Gateway Library, marking a major milestone in its construction.
