Happy September Neighbors!
I hope you've been enjoying your summer and finding ways to stay cool! After a summer break, Council is back in session, and it’s great to be back. There’s a lot to share in this month’s newsletter, including the grand opening of the Mesa Family Resource Center, opportunities for Small Business Assistance, information on upcoming Trees Are Cool programs and much more!
Starting September 9, the Mesa Family Resource Center will begin providing a wide range of services and programs. Located at our Main Library, 64 E. 1st St., families and their children ages 0-5 can participate in fun, FREE, and educational activities. From Zumbini to Infant Massage to our monthly birthday celebration, you won't want to miss our first month of classes! Be sure to check out all our September activities.
Looking to contribute some of your positive energy to the community? Volunteer for our Love Your City- National Day of Service event on Saturday, September 7! We're partnering with JustServe to coordinate citywide volunteer projects. Perfect for individuals or groups looking to volunteer.
Here are two projects that need your help:
Paz de Cristo Garden Build
Alston House Fence Restoration
If you ever have any questions, want to share about issues that are important to you, or if I can be of assistance, please reach out to me at district4@mesaaz.gov or 480-644-3004. My door is always open.

Mark your calendar for G.A.I.N. Day!
G.A.I.N. (Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods) has always been about fostering community ties and enhancing safety in communities and neighborhoods throughout the state of Arizona. G.A.I.N. started in 1998 as a cooler weather alternative to National Night Out, typically held in August. In 2024 we are taking G.A.I.N. to the next level and making it exclusive to the City of Mesa by introducing G.A.I.N. The Mesa Way.
Anyone that wants to build a stronger, safer community in Mesa is encouraged to host a party and participate in G.A.I.N. Day - apartment complexes, mobile home communities, businesses, residential areas, and more.
We can't wait to stop by your neighborhood or business. Don't miss the deadline to register your party by September 15!
Saturday, November 2
3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

September is National Preparedness Month - Emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere, so staying ready is crucial. Here are some tips for handling utility emergencies like electric and natural gas.
Electric Emergency: If you encounter a downed power line, stay away from it and do not touch anything in contact with it. If a power line falls on your vehicle, remain inside and call 911 to report it. Then, contact your electric service provider:
- City of Mesa Electric: 480-644-2262
- SRP: 602-236-8811
Natural Gas Emergency: Use your senses to detect a gas leak. If you smell a rotten egg odor, hear an unusual sound coming from a pipeline or appliance, or see dirt blowing in the air or bubbles forming in the standing water, leave the area immediately and call 911 to report it. Then contact your natural gas service provider:
- City of Mesa: 480-644-4277
- Southwest Gas: 877-860-6020
