August 2024
Hello!
I'm glad to kick-off this month with a new wave of City initiatives and Council Meetings that I hope you'll be able to tune into. As Chair of the Sustainability and Transportation Committee, I'm passionate about finding ways to improve Mesa's transportation methods. Recently the City released its Transportation Master Plan draft for residents to review and provide feedback. The 242-page draft may seem like more than what you'd prefer to read, but it consists of eight sections, one of which you could choose to focus on and then provide your comments. All feedback must be submitted by August 5, 2024. However the draft will remain available for the public to review.
Additionally, a newly created Balanced Housing Plan will be presented at our City Council Study Session on August 22. It demonstrates how the City can help facilitate housing provisions. The draft was presented at a Planning and Zoning Board Study Session last month. It detailed the process to identify trends and gaps, and the strategies to address those gaps while emphasizing the need for diverse housing types, including offering support for attainable housing.
It's worth noting that Mesa is one of the first cities to look at a balanced housing plan. Other cities have focused on affordable housing or ways to ease the development process, but Mesa is one of the first to adopt a comprehensive balanced strategy. I invite you to watch our City Council Study Session. Agenda available soon.
Warm Regards,
Councilmember Alicia Goforth

Raised Crosswalks at Las Sendas Elementary
Students and their parents will have an added layer of protection with newly installed raised crosswalks at Las Sendas Elementary. This project came to play after families expressed concerns of speeding vehicles. It's part of a larger scope of work to improve road safety features for pedestrians and cyclists around Las Sendas.
