IRS temporarily stops processing ERC claims
To protect taxpayers from scams, IRS ordered an immediate stop to new Employee Retention Credit processing Sept. 14 amid a surge of questionable claims, concerns from tax pros and aggressive marketing to ineligible applicants, posing unacceptable risk to businesses and the tax system.
The moratorium on new Employee Retention Credit claims is expected through at least Dec. 31. The IRS notes hundreds of criminal cases are being worked, and thousands of ERC claims have been referred for audit.
