Community Newsletter October/November 2022
Greetings Neighbors!
Fall is upon us. As the temperatures are dropping, we find ourselves spending more time outside. In this newsletter you will find some great outdoor events around the city for the entire family to enjoy. There is also information on new offerings and ways to get involved in community activities.
Recently, City Council has been discussing several changes to the Mesa City Code and at last week's Council Study Session we discussed updates to the 2050 Mesa General Plan. To view that discussion visit mesa11.com. There will be numerous opportunities for public input as we move through the process of updating the plan that guides the future of our City's development.
As always, if you have any questions, want to share about issues that are important to you, or if I can ever be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at district4@mesaaz.gov or 480-644-3004.
-Vice Mayor Jenn Duff

The City of Mesa unveiled the honorary street signs that would identify as Calle Cesar Chavez, a one mile segment of Broadway Road between Mesa Drive and Stapley Drive. The signs provide a geographical relationship connecting Chavez's contributions to Mesa's thriving Hispanic population. With the unveiling of the Calle Cesar Chavez signs and planned street route Mesa recognizes the leader's vision for an inclusive and fair society that welcomes and values diversity.
The honorary signs are in alignment with standard street signs along Broadway and do not require a legal change in access or change in the official street name. The City is also investing in infrastructure and street improvements along this part of Broadway Road.
An honorary street designation will also take place soon along Center Street in downtown Mesa for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Similar designations have been made in other cities locally and nationally to honor historical leaders and strengthen our sense of community. Mesa City Council has approved an ordinance regulating short-term or vacation rentals of less than 30 days. The new ordinance changes the Mesa City Code and follows the approval of a new state law that gives cities more flexibility to regulate short-term rental properties. The new ordinance will require owners of short-term rental properties to acquire a special City of Mesa license. Proposed fees for the annual license and violations will be considered by City Council at a later date, after the 60-day public notice required by State statute. The ordinance is scheduled to take effect February 1, 2023. Find more information HERE.
