Hello Neighbors!
I hope your summer has been fantastic! Council recently convened after summer break, and it's good to be back in session. Over the summer I participated in several educational sessions surrounding the topics of innovation, digital learning, and workforce development. I attended ribbon cuttings, including the new Chicanos Por La Causa for-sale affordable townhome development near Country Club and Main. I also continued to meet with residents and address issues in our community. This newsletter is my way to stay connected and keep you up to date on news and happenings going on in Mesa and in District 4.
It is my commitment to serve you and be your voice in City decision making to help shape a community that is sustainable for generations to come. My door is always open. If I can ever be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at district4@mesaaz.gov or 480-644-3004.
-Vice Mayor Jenn Duff

The City of Mesa maintains its Stage One Water Shortage status following the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announcement that Lake Mead will be at a Tier 2a shortage by January 2023. While mandatory conservation measures are not required of customers in this stage, the City of Mesa has reduced its water use. Since the declaration in May, the Mesa Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Department has cut its water usage 14 percent by such measures as more desert landscape and low-water plants and smart landscape watering technology.
As basin states work together with the Bureau of Reclamation, it will be made clearer in the next several weeks exactly how much Mesa’s Colorado River Supplies will be cut. To ensure the reliability of water supplies, the City of Mesa continues to strategically plan for a future with less Colorado River water and evaluate additional steps for deeper levels of shortage.

If you've driven along Main Street recently, then you've certainly seen all the changes happening in downtown Mesa. The state-of-the-art ASU Mix Center at Mesa City Center recently opened and welcomes hundreds of students in film, video production and digital technology. The Studios, which some of you may remember as the old library at 59 E. First St, is now open and serves as an innovation space. This collaboration with ASU and the City of Mesa is intended to foster business partnership and provide educational and professional training in entrepreneurship, digital literacy, future technology, and small business. Construction of the Plaza at Mesa City Center, an outdoor public civic space, is complete and includes an interactive water feature, an iconic shade canopy over an area for the Merry Main Street ice rink and other events and a large lawn space to view movies and videos on an exterior high-resolution screen on the adjacent MIX Center.
