August is National Water Quality Month
Water Resources is vigilant about protecting public health. That's why we rigorously test, analyze and monitor our water every day. Did you know that Mesa tap water goes through more testing and meets higher quality standards than required for bottled water? In other words, the tap water you use daily is safe, clean, protected and a great value to boot! In fact, you can get 5 gallons of Mesa water for about a penny!

Mesa Police and VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday)
In early 2022 the Mesa Police Department officially teamed up VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) to assist victims of crimes in receiving timely and reliable offender custody information.
Victims will now be able to call an in-state telephone number (1-928-970-5489 or TTY 1-866-847-1298), visit www.vinelink.com, or use the VINELink mobile app to check on an offender’s custody status. Victims can also register to receive automated confidential notifications about changes in an offender’s status via phone, email, text or TTY for the hearing impaired. Services provided by VINE are free to crime survivors and their families.
When victims of crime are identified by police officers during investigations, they will be provided with an informational pamphlet explaining how the VINE notification system works and the additional services it offers.

  Resident's Guide to Mesa
The Resident's Guide to Mesa is a series of free classes with useful information to support Mesa residents who want to improve their neighborhoods. Attend these free classes to better understand city services, connect to other people with common neighborhood concerns and walk away with new tools and training to make positive changes in your community.
Let’s Work Together to Make Mesa a Climate-Ready Community
Mesa’s Climate Action Plan (MCAP) calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and establishing strategies to increase sustainability in our community. It’s time to engage the community to be climate ready within our six focus areas of Energy, Heat Mitigation, Air Quality, Water Stewardship, Materials Management and Food Systems. Survey participants were asked to identify community actions they are currently taking or are willing to take. Survey results helped the City to establish three new priorities, which have been included in the newly updated MCAP.
Community Actions
- Make energy efficiency upgrades to appliances, windows, smart thermostats, etc.
- Choose reusable, rather than disposable, containers
- Repair, reuse and/or donate electronics, appliances and other usable items
- Monitor water bill and water usage regularly
Community Priorities
- Responsible Water Management
- Improve Air Quality
- Transition to Renewable Energy
Working together, residents, businesses and the City of Mesa can achieve Mesa’s climate action goals.

The Foundation for Mesa Parks and Recreation Tree Donation Program
A major shout-out and thank you to the Foundation for Mesa Parks and Recreation! They donated over $6,500 to replace 40 trees at the Mesa Cemetery. We appreciate their support in replacing trees that were lost during monsoon storms and to help ensure a vibrant and beautiful landscape at this historic site.
You too can be part of the tree restoration program. The Foundation for Mesa Parks and Recreation has a Tree Donation Program to fund planting and replacing trees in Mesa Park properties. Follow the link below to donate to the Foundation’s tree program (select the “tree program” option on the screen). Any amount makes a difference!

8 Tips to Keep You Safe This Monsoon Season
Monsoon storms may start quickly and lead to downed power lines and trees, power outages and flooded streets in a matter of minutes. Check out these tips so you can be ready and safe when the storms roll in.
-
Watch, listen, and be aware: Mesa encourages residents to stay updated on current weather forecasts. When a storm is approaching, turn to broadcast media, radio or visit reliable online resources to receive the latest weather updates and instructions. Pay attention to flash flood warnings and get to higher ground when needed.
-
Have a plan: All Mesa residents are encouraged to have an evacuation plan for the most severe instances and have a disaster kit with water, non-perishable foods, flashlights, batteries, medications and first aid supplies.
-
Check on your neighbors: You can help your older and homebound neighbors by making sure they have sandbags and other supplies available. Also, check to see if they have a backup source for power for medical equipment requiring it or a way to keep refrigerated prescriptions cool during a power outage.
-
Don’t forget Fido: Pet owners should also have a disaster kit for their four-legged friends. Keep a recent photo of your pet on hand and make sure your pet’s ID tags are up to date.
-
Pay attention to hazard signs and barricades: "Do Not Cross When Flooded," "Road Closed Due to Flooding" and "Roadblocks" are warnings to keep the public safe. Ignoring barriers or signs can threaten life and property. Do NOT attempt to drive through a flooded road. The depth of water is not always obvious, and the roadbed may be washed out under the water.
-
Report downed trees or other hazards in the public right-of-way: Download the Citylink App to make reports when you see a hazard or call 480-644-2160. We will dispatch Transportation’s Road Hazard Response Crew to address the issue.
-
Stop at flashing lights: If you arrive at an intersection with the signal out, treat it as a four-way stop and proceed with caution. Transportation signal techs are aware and are responding to the issue behind the scenes.
-
Have sandbags ready: Sand and empty bags are available at the following locations (bring your own shovel)
Fire Station 202, 830 S. Stapley Drive
Fire Station 205, 730 S. Greenfield Road
Fire Station 209, 7035 E. Southern Ave.
Fire Station 212, 2430 E. Ellsworth Road
Transportation Building, 300 E. 6th St. (west side of building)
East Mesa Service Center, 6935 E. Decatur St. (front parking lot)
For additional storm preparation information and a complete list of contact numbers, visit mesaaz.gov/storm.
When It Rains, It Pours, and It’s Free!
Monsoon season also presents opportunities to save water. One water-saving tip is to harvest rainwater. This free source of water is great for your plants. The other involves your irrigation controller. If you get at least ½ inch of rain, you can skip a watering cycle. Turn your irrigation controller to the ‘rain’ setting or use the ‘off’ setting to pause your irrigation watering without disrupting your program settings. Not sure how much rain you got at your house? Get rainfall data from Maricopa County Flood Control.
