 May/June 2022
Hello District 4 Neighbors!
I hope you are all doing well and taking the chance to enjoy the cooler evenings as our weather is heating up. Much has been happening around our city and state. Most notably has been the discussion around our water resources. I care deeply about our region's water supply and ensuring that our community is sustainable for generations to come. Mesa has adopted a comprehensive Water Shortage Management Plan and is committed to water stewardship. Read below to learn more about what is happening, Mesa's response, and how you can help with water conservation.
Congratulations to all of those graduating this month! An education is something that sticks with you forever, and your hard work is truly valued. If you are still in school or looking to continue your education, Mesa College Promise may be a good option. Applications are being accepted through July 15. Click HERE for more information.
Thank you for being a part of the Mesa community! As always, if I can ever be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at district4@mesaaz.gov or 480-644-3004.
-Vice Mayor Jenn Duff

Mesa Statement Following Arizona Department of Water Resources and Central Arizona Project Joint Colorado River Shortage Briefing
Due to historic drought, climate change, and over-allocation, conditions on the Colorado River are worsening. While deeper shortages may come quicker than anticipated, Mesa recognizes the situation is serious and continues to strategically plan for a future with less water.
We have known for many years that Colorado River supplies could be cut. Mesa has proactively invested in our infrastructure, water supplies, underground water storage and demand management programs. These preparations bring water resiliency and dependability to Mesa, especially during times of shortage.

The City of Mesa Summer Electric Assistance (SEA) Program is a residential utility assistance program for income-qualified customers residing in Mesa’s Electric Service Area and receiving their electric service directly from the City (not SRP). SEA provides Mesa electric utility customers with limited short-term assistance for their electric bills during the summer months of July, August, and September. *SRP customers are not eligible to participate in this program.
SEA eliminates Mesa’s monthly service charge and usage charge for the first 80 kilowatt hours. Actual savings are dependent upon submission and approval dates as well as the total number of kWh consumed each month.

REMINDER: Mylar Balloons and Power Lines Don’t Mix
With all the graduation parties and other celebrations occurring, it’s a great time to remind everyone of the danger of mixing Mylar balloons and power lines.
Mylar balloons are metallic and when they touch a power line, it can cause a dangerous short circuit leading to a power outage, fire, and serious injuries.
For your safety and the safety of others:
- Never release balloons outside.
- Keep balloons away from power lines.
- Don’t touch balloons entangled in wires.
- Always tie balloons to a weight.
- Puncture, deflate, and dispose of balloons properly.
If you see a balloon caught in a power line or a downed line, call 480-644-2262 or 911. Never attempt to retrieve anything entangled in power lines.
