 April/May 2022
Hello District 4 Neighbors!
Things in Mesa have been moving full pace. In this newsletter, you'll find information about activities going on in Mesa, resources available to residents, upcoming City Council meetings, and much more.
Council has been busy reviewing annual department budgets. This year, I'm most proud of how the City of Mesa is implementing it's Climate Action Plan throughout all of the departments with a proposed initial investment of $10M. To learn more about Mesa's Climate Action Plan click HERE. If you would like to catch up on past Council meetings visit mesa11.com.
Thank you for being a part of the Mesa community! As always, if I can ever be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at district4@mesaaz.gov or 480-644-3004.

Mayor John Giles has proclaimed April 2022 as Fair Housing Month and encourages all agencies, individuals and institutions, public and private, in Mesa to abide by the letter and the spirit of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, which sought to eliminate discrimination in housing opportunities and affirmatively further housing choices for all Americans.
The City of Mesa also provides assistance, information and materials regarding Fair Housing questions and complaints on their Fair Housing Website.

Share your knowledge and experience with Mesa. One of the most effective ways to provide input to local government is through service on one of the City’s citizen advisory boards. If you are invested in the success of your community and looking for ways to get more involved, consider applying to serve on a committee or board.
The City of Mesa accepts applications on a rolling basis as members term out or cycle off at regular intervals. Applications and current openings are available at the Advisory Board & Committees Application Center. Board and committee members are appointed by the office of the Mayor and approved by Council. Unless otherwise noted, the term of service is three years.

The City of Mesa Summer Electric Assistance (SEA) Program is a residential utility assistance program for income-qualified customers residing in Mesa’s Electric Service Area and receiving their electric service directly from the City (not SRP). SEA provides Mesa electric utility customers with limited short-term assistance for their electric bills during the summer months of July, August, and September. *SRP customers are not eligible to participate in this program.
SEA eliminates Mesa’s monthly service charge and usage charge for the first 80 kilowatt hours. Actual savings are dependent upon submission and approval dates as well as the total number of kWh consumed each month.
To receive the most possible benefits, applicants are encouraged to apply prior to May 26, 2022. For more information and to apply click HERE.

REMINDER: Not everything goes in the garbage can.
DO NOT put hazardous chemicals in your trash or recycle containers — even if you think containers are empty. Chemicals can react with one another, release a dangerous gas and even cause a fire. This photo is from one of two recent incidents in which a garbage truck caught fire as a result of a reaction between paint and pool chemicals.
Mesa has the Household Hazardous Materials Facility (HHM) for our residents to safely dispose of chemicals from their homes. Mesa businesses should contact a private hazardous materials removal company for available options.
For information about the HHM, click HERE
