Footprint For the Future

Footprint for the Future

Help Shape the Future of Mesa by Participating in Community Workshops

Sept. 14 - Sept. 23: We invite you to visit one of six community workshops to provide your feedback on the needs and priorities for developing Mesa’s Footprint for the Future.

Input received from the workshop series will inform two planning projects that are currently underway: the Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Comprehensive Plan and the Climate Action Plan (learn more about the plan below).

The importance of community involvement in the decision-making process is a priority for the City of Mesa. The drop-in style workshops will include a number of feedback activities designed to identify key issues and opportunities as they relate to parks, recreation, and climate action. All workshops will be open from 6:00 to 7:30pm.

  1. Tue, September 14: Brimhall Aquatics Complex (4949 E. Southern Ave.)
  2. Wed, September 15: Mesa Aquatics, Parks & Sports Field Maintenance (6945 E. Decatur St.)
  3. Thur, September 16: Hale Elementary School Multipurpose Room (1425 N. 23rd St.)

We encourage you to engage early in the planning process and share your priorities for Mesa’s Footprint for the Future. If you are unable to attend the community workshops, additional options to participate will be available:

Climate Change Impacts

Climate change is a long-term change to the usual weather patterns found in a region, such as temperature and rainfall, caused in large part by human activity. In Mesa, we see evidence of climate change in the steady rise in daytime and overnight temperatures, shifts in rainfall, more severe weather events, and other fluctuations of the climate system.

Climate Action Plan

About Mesa's Climate Action Plan

The City of Mesa has formed its first Climate Action Plan, a Mayor and Council priority initiative, to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, build resilience in our community, and address the negative outcomes of a changing climate. Leading by example, the Plan establishes policy directive, sets targets, and describes proposed strategies that will increase sustainability in City operations.

The Footprint for the Future community workshops listed above are just part of our effort to gather and reflect the viewpoints, priorities, and needs of all Mesa residents, neighborhoods, businesses, and stakeholders.

The Climate Action Plan provides our commitment to proactively and responsibly protect and conserve Mesa’s environment and natural resources. Through the Plan, we will implement mitigation and adaptation strategies, implement intentional policy direction, and support the advancement of innovative technologies.

To learn more about the aspirational goals that we propose to be a guide to our vision for the future, read the Mesa Climate Action Plan document.

Climate Action Actions

Ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Left to right: Compost your food and yard waste, harvest rainwater for your landscape, plant a garden to reduce your food miles, plant a tree to clean the air and cool our communities, ride your bicycle instead of driving to reduce pollutants.
