Summer Electric Conservation for Mesa Electric Customers
Arizona summers can be strenuous for the wallet and our electric grid. This year, the City of Mesa encourages electric customers to be smart about energy consumption as the southwest region faces unprecedented market conditions that could affect the supply and billing rates.
Mesa does not own or operate any electric generators and purchases its electric supply through various short and long-term agreements. However, this year supply costs have increased dramatically due to the region’s population growth and energy usage and the transition to newer and cleaner energy production. City of Mesa Electric Utility customers within the City’s Service Territory can help reduce the impact by lowering energy consumption during peak hours of 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Mesa Energy Resources is taking several steps to ease the impact of higher demand on the power grid.

Hydration Stations
Water Resources and Vice Mayor Jenn Duff have partnered again on a Hydration Station campaign to provide an additional solution for clean, sustainable heat relief in Mesa. While bottled water provides necessary, portable drinking water for those most in need, the Hydration Station campaign offers a stable, ongoing drinking water option. Together with bottled water donations, Hydration Stations provide relief and help to reduce heat-related illness in Mesa.
There are five Hydration Stations in Mesa available year-round and are accessible to anyone who needs a drink of water. The stations reduce plastic bottle waste by enabling users to refill reusable bottles as a sustainable source of drinking water, helping especially those most vulnerable to triple-digit temperatures.
Hydration Stations are funded by generous community donations and partnerships with local agencies. View a map of all Hydration Stations, or make a donation to help fund future Stations.

Trash & Recycle Barrel Reminders
To help us provide uninterrupted service to our trash and recycle customers, please remember the following:
-
Barrels out to the curb by 6 a.m. on scheduled collection day, including all holidays. Unexpected events can occur which can result in our garbage truck servicing your area earlier than usual. Barrels can be set out as early as 6 p.m. the night before and we ask that they be removed by 6 a.m. the day after. Please also keep barrels away from obstructions such as parked vehicles, mailboxes, low clearance trees, etc.
-
Do not overload the barrel. All items should be properly contained, and the lid should be closed. This helps prevent litter on the street and damage to the equipment during the collection process. If additional barrels are needed, please call Customer Service at 480-644-2221.
-
Bag & Tie. All items, especially kitchen and bathroom waste, should be properly sealed in a garbage bag. This helps prevent odors, the breeding of insects and ensures compliance with County and local health regulations.

Energy Safety During Monsoons
Monsoons can damage electric infrastructure and result in serious power outages. While most of the natural gas system is underground and storms rarely affect service and pipelines, a monsoon can cause a natural gas emergency. Learn and practice energy safety to keep your family safe during monsoon season.
How can you prepare?
- Review and refresh your knowledge of energy safety in and outside your home.
- Know your emergency contact numbers:
- Mesa Electric: 480-644-2266
- Mesa Gas: 480-644-4277
- Know what to do during and after outages.
During the Storm
Since many natural gas appliances don’t require electricity, they are safe to use during a monsoon. However, if you smell natural gas or hear a hissing sound coming from appliances or meters, leave the area immediately, go to a safe location and call 911 or the city at 480-644-4277.
After the Storm
If your home or yard is damaged by a storm, have your appliances and piping inspected by a professional. Remember to call 811 for underground utility locating at least two days before digging to repair damage. It’s free and it’s the law.
Power outages or damage to infrastructure can be more widespread and last longer than the monsoon storms and winds.
