Warmer Weather = Water Safety!
A drowning can happen at any age, at any time. In fact, in Mesa, we have more adults drown than children. Here are a few tips to stay safe in and around the water for all ages:
- Never swim alone at any age – always swim with a buddy or lifeguard
- Kids need constant supervision around all water areas inside and outside
- Swimming lessons are important for all ages
- The heat from spas can increase body temperatures and intensify prescription medications – talk to your doctor
- Stay hydrated with water, not alcohol
- Learn CPR

Excess Flow Valves (EFV’s)
Be aware that EFV’s are installed on new/renewed gas service lines serving single and multi-family residences and small commercial services not exceeding 1,000 SCFH. EFV’s are in-line mechanical devices designed to limit the flow of gas in the event a service line is damaged between the EFV and the gas meter. A visual indication of their presence is the installation of a washer on the meter riser.
To check if your gas service has an EFV or to learn about the requirements to have one installed, contact the City of Mesa at gasinfo@mesaaz.gov.
To report a damaged service line, if you smell gas in or outside of your home, or suspect a damaged line, call 480-644-4277 (GASS).
