Census

This is Mesa’s once in a decade opportunity to make sure that everyone in our City of counted. For the first time ever, you can respond to the Census by internet, phone or by traditional mail.

Every person counted brings over $3,000 in state and federal funding to programs that support Mesa residents in sectors like public safety, roads, and healthcare. When members of our community don’t respond, that funding could go to other cites and states.

The Census also affects how many seats in the U.S. House of Representatives Arizona has and can affect representative districts.

Guerrero Park Neighborhood

We’re thrilled to share this mural project that has come to life in Mesa's Guerrero Park Neighborhood. The Urban Land Institute ULID2 Mural Project combined neighborhood history and stories with many local artists to create more than 14 murals. Take this virtual tour that begins near Guerrero Rotary Park at 205 W 8th Ave and flows throughout the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Cleanup Program Accepting Applications

Mesa residents are invited to host a cleanup event in their neighborhood.  As part of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program, large trash containers are provided for you and your neighbors to dispose of your no longer needed items.  Requesting these trash containers is easy and there is no additional cost.  Simply complete the Neighborhood Cleanup Program application form and gather signatures from your neighbors.  Once your application is received, a City of Mesa staff member will contact you to schedule your event date.  Some zones have openings as early as August.  For eligibility requirements and to download an application packet, visit our website or call (480) 644-4791.

Gas Safety Message

ENERGY SAFETY IS PART OF KEEPING OUR HOMES SAFE

Learn and practice energy safety while enjoying the comfort and convenience of natural gas and electricity in your home. It’s as easy as one, two, three:

ONE… TEACH YOUR FAMILY THE BASICS OF ENERGY AND ENERGY SAFETY! Learning about natural gas and electricity is the first step to keep yourself, family, and community safe. Make it a priority and learn to:

  • RECOGNIZE an energy emergency.  Know that natural gas smells like rotten eggs and that downed power lines are dangerous.
  • REACT quickly to an energy emergency.  Leave the area immediately and do not return until an emergency responder deems it safe to do so.
  • REPORT energy emergencies promptly.  In the event of a gas emergency, call 480-644-4277 (GASS) or 911.  If you see an electric emergency, call 480-644-2266 or 911.

TWO… PRACTICE ENERGY SAFETY REGULARLY!

  • Follow manufacturer instructions for the care and use of gas and electric appliances.
  • Be sure gas appliances have a blue flame - this indicates fuel is burning correctly.
  • Keep areas around appliances clean and clear to allow proper air flow and prevent tripping hazards.
  • Never store household chemicals or combustible materials near gas appliances.
  • If you suspect a gas emergency or smell a rotten egg odor, REACT AND REPORT!
  • Always call 811 before digging to have underground utilities located and marked.
  • Water and electricity don’t mix.   Do not use electric appliances or tools near water, when you are wet, or standing on wet ground.

THREE… HAVE A PLAN! Take steps to prepare for a possible emergency:

  • Install smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in your home and check the batteries annually. Monitor the expiration date of the detectors.
  • Make an escape map with two exits out of every room and pick a meeting place outside.
  • Practice safety drills for getting out of the house quickly.
  • Make sure there is at least one multipurpose fire extinguisher in your home and know how to use it.
  • Review energy and home safety tips regularly with ALL family members.
