Update to Electronic Appeals and Access to Juvenile Case Records

The Clerk’s Office has successfully transmitted its first electronic record on appeal in a juvenile case. Last month’s article on electronic appeals in juvenile cases stated that CD-ROMs that include the index and accompanying documents on appeal would be provided on request. The Clerk’s Office automatically provides this CD to government agencies and court-appointed attorneys participating in the appeal – no request needed.

Although most adult case records are available to parties and their attorneys through the Electronic Court Record Online (ECR Online), more restrictive rules apply to accessing juvenile records. Therefore, juvenile case records are not accessible remotely over the internet at this time. Private practice attorneys and parties to juvenile cases may access juvenile case records at the Clerk’s two juvenile court facilities. See the list of Clerk’s Office locations and hours at http://www.clerkofcourt.maricopa.gov/clerk_loc.asp.

August is Child Support Awareness Month

Governor Jan Brewer proclaimed August as Child Support Awareness Month in Arizona. A Family Connection Fun Day and Back to School Bash will be held on Saturday, August 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, located at 1375 E. Broadway Rd. in Phoenix. The event is free. More information is available online from the Department of Child Support Services at https://www.azdes.gov/uploadedFiles/Child_Support_Enforcement/Family%20Connection%20Fun%20Day%202014%20-%20Event%20Flyer.pdf.

The Clerk’s Office sends support orders to employers to withhold, modify, or terminate withholding support money from a payor’s wages. Withholdings are paid through and distributed by the state’s payment clearinghouse. In fiscal year 2012/2013, the Clerk’s Office mailed more than 23,000 withholding orders.

Electronic Processing of Minute Entries and Orders - Reminder

With the Clerk’s update to its systems, documents placed in queue for automated processing on Fridays and the day before a holiday will be posted online and distributed electronically on the business day reflected on the electronic file stamp. Parties who receive paper copies of minute entries and orders will continue having their documents distributed during business hours on business days.
