Join Ranger Amy for this morning hike and see how many things there are to “like” about Estrella Park! This hike will be approximately 4-miles. There will be plenty of opportunity to stop for pictures so you can “share” with your friends! Please make sure to bring a camera, plenty of water and wear appropriate footwear. On 3/29/2013 8:00:00 AM: Bring your best friend out for a walk in the park. We will walk the Coldwater trail, a wide trail that there will be plenty of room for Fido’s and Fifi’s to explore safely. Learn some tips from Ranger Amy for safe hiking with your dog. Dogs must be on a leash. Meet at the Coldwater Trailhead.

On 3/23/2013 9:00:00 AM: On this 1.5-mile hike, you will see evidence of a past civilization, the Hohokam. The Park Ranger will take you to areas not usually accessible to the public. The trail is easy, but there will be some climbing involved, so be prepared. Meet at the Horseshoe Trailhead.

Ranger Amy will keep you on the right path and make frequent stops to highlight the desert environment around us. Please bring water and wear appropriate footwear to protect from rocks, cactus and other debris along the trail. Meet at the Nature Center.

This easy walk will provide you with a up-close look at the beautiful desert, without the worry of the unknown. This trail is wheelchair accessible. Wildflower sightings are not guaranteed, but enjoying a spring morning in the park is! Meet at the Gila Trailhead.

On 3/15/2013 9:00:00 AM: Did you know that Estrella Park has some great trails for easy fitness hikes? Join Ranger Amy on a 2-mile easy fitness hike along the gently rolling Horseshoe Trail. This trail is an ideal trail if you are a beginner hiker. We will hike this trail at a comfortable pace to allow us to get some exercise, but also take the time to enjoy the desert around us. Make sure to have water and appropriate footwear. Meet at the Horseshoe Trailhead.

On 3/14/2013 12:00:00 PM: Take a break...Spring Break, that is! Bring the kids out for an easy 0.5-mile walk on the barrier-free Gila Trail. We will look for lizards and Ranger Amy will share examples of unusual eating habits of some desert wildlife. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic ramadas after the walk. On 3/9/2013 11:00:00 AM: This informative program will help you gain a basic understanding of geology.  Want to know more about the geologic time scale, or learn the difference between metamorphic and alluvial, then this program is for you! Join special guest speaker, Joe Ford, on a walk in the desert to look at geology “up-close”.  Program will be held on the trail, but is not a hike. Joe holds several degrees in education and a Masters Degree in Natural Science from the University of Oklahoma. He has been an educator on the junior high, high school and college levels. He is a board member in the Sonoran Audubon Society and a past member of the Sun City Rockhounds, among many of his other interests.  Meet at the Coldwater Trail head.
