It's hot. It's humid. It's mosquito season!
The best thing you can to do prevent mosquitoes from breeding is to remove standing water. Our Environmental Services team provides these tips:
- Empty, drain, or cover anything that holds water.
- Mow your lawn weekly. Mosquitoes tend to sit in tall grass to rest and hide.
For more tips, and the mosquito fogging schedule, visit our Fight the Bite website.

There is new evidence that the more-contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 is spreading in Maricopa County. The variant represented about 20% of sequenced cases during the month of June and Public Health expects that number to increase. Read below to learn more about the variant and see the best ways to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community.
- The Delta variant is a strain of COVID-19 that is more contagious than other strains of COVID-19. This means it spreads from person-to-person more easily, especially if a person is not vaccinated.
- As of July 2021, the Delta variant has become the “dominant variant” in the United States, which means that most of the new COVID-19 cases that are being analyzed are caused by the Delta variant.
- The amount of Delta variant is increasing in Maricopa County and will likely become the dominant variant.
- Based on what we know, the Delta variant is spread more easily from person-to-person.
- There is also some evidence that the illness caused by the Delta variant may be more severe, particularly in younger people, but there is still a lot to learn about this variant.

Animal Care & Control (AC&C) is currently at shelter capacity and has limited kenneling options. If you'd like to adopt a new, furry family member, you can adopt one for $25.
MCACC also needs fosters who can care for a large dog for at least two weeks and fosters who can care for nursing moms with litters. Learn more and sign up here.
If you can't foster an animal, Animal Care would really appreciate new or gently used large bath sized towels and small fleece blankets. Let's help our staff (and those cute pets) during a challenging time!
