Diverse Outreach Benefits Community
|
|
Maricopa County Public Health is working to get vaccine to people from diverse populations which benefits our entire community. This outreach effort builds on connections our team has been making for years. Here are a few of the ways we’re ensuring equitable access to COVID-19 information and resources, including vaccine:
-
Multilingual Call Center: We have staff and volunteers answering questions in multiple languages to provide vaccine information and help set up appointments (see video above)
-
Refugee Outreach Unit: Since the start of the pandemic, the Refugee Outreach Unit has worked with community leaders to provide information and resources regarding COVID-19. This has included supplies like masks and hand sanitizers, as well as testing and vaccine events. This team includes Clinical Health Navigators who speak ten languages and serve many refugee communities in the Valley.
-
Promotores: Maricopa County Public Health has partnered with 2-1-1 to bring Spanish-speaking Promotores on board to assist residents with information on the COVID-19 vaccine and also help book appointments. Watch Univision 33 or cable 19 tonight from 5-7 pm to hear some of the most frequently asked vaccine questions and even get an appointment booked through our Promotores.
-
Pop-up Events: Public Health works with trusted partners to set up vaccination events for historically underserved populations including refugees.

What’s My Role In Ending The Pandemic?
According to the most recent vaccination data, 843,777 people in Maricopa County have been fully vaccinated. While this is great progress, our total population is about 4.5 million. We still need to get a lot more people vaccinated in order to make it really hard for the virus to spread.
Remember: Gathering in large groups, spending long periods of time in poorly ventilated places, and choosing not to wear masks or socially distance puts you and others at risk! Please continue to take preventive measures in public and if you haven’t already, we recommend getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

All Three Vaccines Are Effective
All three authorized COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson) have been proven to be highly effective at preventing serious illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. For most people, the best vaccine is the one that is available first. However, if you have previously had a severe allergic reaction to any ingredients in a vaccine or have any concerns about possible contraindications, be sure to check with your doctor for more information about your options. You can see a comparison of all three vaccines, as well as their associated fact sheets, on our website.
