With more people becoming eligible for vaccination and lower COVID-19 case numbers, it can feel tempting to go back to our behaviors pre-COVID. However, as we’ve seen over the past year, there are peaks and valleys in any pandemic and we happen to be in a valley right now. While we are encouraged by the growing number of residents getting vaccinated, we must all continue to take preventive measures to prevent another spike in cases that can impact the vast majority of our friends and neighbors who are not yet fully protected. About 70% of all adults have yet to get even a single dose of the vaccine, so please do your part for a little bit longer. We are getting closer to the end, but we’re not there yet.
Do The Current COVID-19 Vaccines Work On The New Variant Strains Circulating?
With news over the weekend that the B.1.351 variant (sometimes called the South African variant) of COVID-19 has been detected in Arizona, we know there are questions about what this means. The CDC and other scientific partners are actively investigating the effectiveness of currently authorized vaccines against emerging variants. Current studies suggest that antibodies generated by vaccination with currently-authorized vaccines recognize and provide protection against these variants.
