We’ve reached some key milestones in the vaccination effort! More than one million people are fully vaccinated statewide; more than 800,000 have been vaccinated with at least one dose in Maricopa County; and more than 500,000 doses of vaccine have now been administered at our county POD sites. Public Health is ramping up efforts to bring vaccine to the places where eligible people are, whether that’s essential workers, adults 55 and older, or underserved communities.

What If I Need Transportation to An Appointment?
Many people in our community have challenges getting to vaccination sites. That’s a reason that Public Health is hosting so many pop-up events in neighborhoods. We want to bring vaccine to those who are eligible. In addition, more than 180 pharmacies around Maricopa County now offer vaccine, making it more likely you’ll find an appointment near you, especially as vaccine supply increases.

There are additional resources for folks who need a ride to vaccination sites:
- Valley of the Sun YMCA has partnered with Uber and Arizona Department of Health Services to provide rides for seniors. This program provides transportation to state-run sites. For more information, call (602) 212-6088 or email opas@vosymca.org.
- People enrolled in Arizona's Medicaid program (AHCCCS) will not have to pay for transportation to and from COVID-19 vaccine appointments. AHCCCS announced last month it will cover members' transportation costs. AHCCCS beneficiaries who have a scheduled COVID-19 vaccination appointment at a drive-thru site are encouraged to contact their health plan to schedule non-emergency transportation to attend that appointment.
Finally, keep in mind that the county POD at Grand Canyon University is pedestrian friendly and close to public transportation. Those who use ride share, buses, or light rail can walk, ride, and roll up at GCU to get their vaccine.
Vaccine Safety: How You Can Help
CDC’s v-safe is a new text-based, after-vaccination health checker for people who receive COVID-19 vaccines. When you receive your vaccine, you should also receive a v-safe information sheet telling you how to enroll in v-safe. If you enroll, you will receive regular text messages directing you to surveys where you can report any problems or adverse reactions you have after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.
Don’t have a v-safe info sheet? Sign up here. You can sign up in English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, or Chinese.

Can I Be Vaccinated If I Already Had COVID-19 And Recovered?
The CDC recommends that those who have had COVID-19 get the vaccine. Due to the severe health risks associated with COVID-19 and the fact that reinfection with COVID-19 is possible, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19 infection. If you were treated for COVID-19 symptoms with monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma, you should wait 90 days before getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure what treatments you received or if you have more questions about getting a COVID-19 vaccine. |
