More Than 25,000 Vaccine Doses Per Day Are Being Administered to Maricopa County Residents
|
|
While there is still a limited supply of vaccine in Maricopa County, we continue to make progress getting shots into arms. The 7-day average of vaccine doses administered has been steadily increasing, as this chart shows. As of February 27, the 7-day average of vaccine doses administered is 25,226. In late January, the 7-day average was 18,394.
All told, 1,091,449 doses of vaccine have been administered in Maricopa County! This is great progress, but there is still a lot more to do. We will continue to work hard to make sure everyone who wants the vaccine can get it!

Not Out of The Woods Yet
Public Health strongly urges everyone, even those who have been vaccinated, to continue taking precautions to prevent getting or spreading COVID-19. While community transmission is lower than it was a few months ago, the virus is still spreading widely in our community with hundreds of new cases reported each day. Only about 373,000 out of an estimated 4.5 million people in Maricopa County have been fully vaccinated. We still have a long way to go before we’re out of the woods. Until then, please:
- Limit contact with people outside of your household.
- Wear a mask and keep six feet of distance when you are around people outside of your household. Remember, outside is safer than inside.
- Stay home when you’re sick, and be cautious even if you feel well in case you’re asymptomatic.
- Follow quarantine guidelines if you have been exposed to COVID-19.
- Wash your hands regularly.
- Get a flu shot if you haven’t already.
- Get a COVID-19 vaccine when it’s your turn.

Johnson And Johnson Vaccine Update
We’ve been hearing a lot of questions about the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Arizona will be getting doses soon. As with other COVID-19 vaccines, Arizona Department of Health Services will coordinate the distribution. Public Health will work with ADHS to determine how best to use the one-shot Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. We will list locations offering Johnson and Johnson at Maricopa.gov/COVID19VaccineLocations.
Remember: all three of the currently available vaccines are effective against COVID-19 and Public Health advises people to get the first vaccine available.

What’s Next for Schools?
Governor Doug Ducey issued an executive order requiring K-12 schools to offer in-person classes by March 15 or after Spring Break. The executive order applies to most counties, including Maricopa. You can view updated school benchmarks here.
Public Health has been working diligently over the past several weeks to vaccinate Maricopa County teachers and school staff at private events. More than 40,000 doses have been administered to K-12 school and childcare staff to date. In the video, see how these school vaccination events are ensuring safer school environments for everyone as in-person instruction ramps up.
