Vaccination Successes And Next Steps

Large POD sites have been critical in getting vaccine to priority groups as quickly and efficiently as possible in early stages of distribution for Phase 1A and 1B Priority. Maricopa County Public Health is grateful to our community partners for their expertise in staffing and running these PODs! While some PODs will continue, the County is expanding its efforts to focus increasingly on smaller events targeted at specific community needs.

Equal Access to Vaccines
There's a lot of work going on behind-the-scenes to ensure vaccine access for underserved populations in Maricopa County. For example, Public Health is working with partners right now to set up special events for senior housing facilities so adults 65 and older who may not have transportation or internet access can get vaccinated. Other events focus on folks for whom English is not their first language.
To date, Maricopa County and its partners have held multiple events for underserved populations around the Valley. There are dozens more events planned with many of them happening in the next two weeks. The pop-up events are one part of Maricopa County's larger plan to bring vaccine doses to the places where vaccine-eligible people live and work. The smaller, targeted events complement larger vaccination sites that serve the broader public. We'll continue to update you on our efforts to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.

At today’s press conference, Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine, Medical Director for Disease Control at Public Health, addressed questions about whether one type of vaccine was better than another.
