Update On COVID-19 Spread
We’re seeing encouraging signs that COVID-19 transmission is decreasing in our community. While all three statewide benchmarks show “substantial” community spread of COVID-19 in Maricopa County and are higher than they have been for most of the pandemic, all three decreased during the most recent week of full data. According to the Arizona Department of Health Services community spread dashboard update today:
|
-
Case rates per 100,000: For the most recent week of full data (1/10), Maricopa County had 689 cases per 100,000 people. Anything over 100 cases per 100,000 is considered substantial spread. For context, there were 905 cases per 100,000 people the previous week (1/3).
-
Percent positivity: For the most recent week of full data (1/10), Maricopa County has seen 19.5% of COVID-19 tests come back positive. Anything over 10% is considered substantial spread. For context, the rate was 22.3% the previous week (1/3).
-
COVID-like illness as a percentage of hospital visits: For the most recent week of full data (1/10), 15.5% of hospital visits in Maricopa County are for COVID-like illness. Anything over 10% is considered substantial spread. For context, the rate was 17.9% the previous week (1/3).
Additional School Data
Maricopa County Public Health has added more detailed information about COVID-19 outbreaks at K-12 schools. The “school tab” on the county’s data dashboard now includes a breakdown by school type (high school, elementary, etc.).
School decision makers or parents looking for the latest information about COVID-19 transmission in their school district, ZIP code, or city can find it at Maricopa.gov/SchoolDashboard.

Vaccine Update
Additional email notifications about private, second dose events are being sent tonight to those who received their first dose at the county's Chandler or Goodyear PODs. Those who received their vaccine earliest will be contacted first about openings.
As additional vaccine becomes available, more appointments and locations will open up. For questions about eligibility, visit Maricopa.gov/COVID19Vaccine.

School Vaccination Sites
Maricopa County Public Health has partnered with school districts and pharmacies to set up vaccination events for area schools and childcare providers. There are more than a dozen vaccination events spread out across the Valley. Most of these will use the Moderna vaccine. K-12 school (public, private, or charter) and childcare providers can find out who to contact for an event in their area and view FAQs on these events by visiting Maricopa.gov/COVID19vaccineschools.
