Whether you received first dose at a county or state-run site, here's what you should know about scheduling your second dose. |

Appointment Availability
Here is the latest information on vaccine appointment availability as of Wednesday, 1/27, at 5 p.m.:
- The next batch of second dose scheduling email notifications will go out TOMORROW (1/28) to those who were vaccinated at Maricopa County’s Chandler or Goodyear POD sites during the week of Jan. 11th. Those who received their vaccine earliest will be contacted first about openings.
- These events are only viewable in the ADHS vaccine scheduling system by those who are notified by email (from podvaccine-noreply@azdhs.gov) and provided instructions on how to make an appointment. This is to ensure we allow sufficient opportunity for those vaccinated at our Chandler and Goodyear POD sites to receive their 2nd doses in the most timely manner possible. If you didn’t get an email, it may not be your turn yet.
- Appointments for these private second dose events will be offered at the Chandler or Goodyear POD locations or at our newest partner POD location, Grand Canyon University. GCU is vaccinating an estimated 500-700 people per day at invitation-only events, with plans to expand as more vaccine becomes available.
- If you receive an email notifying you that you can schedule your second dose but do not see open appointments, check back—you will be able to see appointments reserved for second doses as more become available in February.
- There are now 11 pharmacies in Maricopa County offering vaccination appointments to adults 75 years and older, including Albertson’s, Safeway, and Fry’s locations. People in the 75+ age group are encouraged to check back weekly for appointments. Search here >
- The state-operated 24/7 State Farm Stadium and Phoenix Municipal Stadium POD sites are fully booked through February.
- As additional vaccine becomes available, more appointments and locations will open up. For questions about eligibility, visit Maricopa.gov/COVID19Vaccine.

School Vaccination Sites
School and childcare workers have more options to get vaccinated in a way that’s convenient for them. Maricopa County Public Health has partnered with school districts and pharmacies to set up special, private events for area schools and childcare providers. Find out if you’re eligible and if there’s an event scheduled near you by visiting Maricopa.gov/COVID19vaccineschools.

A few key points:
- These events are closed to the public and are only for K-12 school staff and childcare providers.
- School staff includes but is not limited to teachers, custodial staff, bus drivers, substitute teachers, and school administrators who do not work remotely.
- Childcare providers include those who work at licensed facilities and home-based child care operators providing care for 5 or more children who do not live in the home
- Family members cannot be vaccinated at these events.
- School vaccination events will primarily use the Moderna vaccine. Anyone who already got their first dose elsewhere is encouraged to confirm whether they can get their second dose of the same manufacturer (Pfizer or Moderna) at their school vaccine site or return to the site of their original vaccine. They should not get vaccines from different manufacturers for each dose.

More Than 200,000 Vaccine Doses Administered So Far at County PODs
Maricopa County’s five points of dispensing (PODs) have now distributed 201,489 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Additional doses allocated to Maricopa County by the State of Arizona have been provided to partners including pharmacies, federally-qualified healthcare centers, and vendors for long-term care facilities. As mentioned above, we are also setting up closed events for school staff and childcare workers and are developing additional sites that can help serve those who use public transportation or need walk-through sites. Our current vaccine supply allows us to support all of these sites and events. As more vaccine becomes available, we will expand the number of sites offering vaccinations, meaning appointments will be easier to get.

Have We Reached The Peak?
COVID-19 cases in Maricopa County have started to decline in recent days, which is an encouraging sign. Our 7-day rolling case average as of January 23rd is 3,600 cases per day—still high, but down from the nearly 6,000 per day we saw near the beginning of January. Hospitalizations and deaths have not yet decreased, however, so it’s important to keep our guard up, even with vaccination now underway.

Please continue to:
- Wear a mask and keep six feet of distance when you are around people outside of your household.
- Stay home when you’re sick and be cautious even if you feel well in case you’re asymptomatic.
- Wash your hands regularly.
- Get a flu shot if you haven’t already
- Get a COVID-19 vaccine when it’s your turn
When Should I Get Tested?
If you have COVID-like symptoms, you should get tested right away. If you aren't experiencing symptoms, testing is recommended any time after day 5 through day 14 after exposure. You can develop symptoms up to 14 days after close contact with an infectious person. Even if you test negative one week after exposure, you can still develop the disease and infect others, with or without symptoms.
