Chairman Jack Sellers' Statement on U.S. Capitol Attack, Election Misinformation

Supervisor Jack Sellers

Statement from Chairman Jack Sellers on U.S. Capitol Attack & Election Misinformation

Two days now since the attack on our nation’s Capitol, I am seeing encouraging signs that the voices of democracy and truth are more powerful that those who seek to undermine both.

I strongly condemn the riotous actions of the mob that stormed the sacred halls of the U.S. Capitol; it was truly chilling to watch.  I also condemn those who spread misleading information and outright lies which were clearly a root cause of Wednesday's destruction and violence.  What is encouraging to me is how this attack has steeled spines and led more people to speak out publicly for what they know is right.

I want to assure the residents of Maricopa County the Board of Supervisors will continue to stand up for what we KNOW is truth. Our election was safe, secure and accurate. If people really care enough to look for facts, real and accurate data is available for every citizen to see. This Board will continue to be guided by facts and not rumors and innuendo in social media posts when making important decisions.  We will work hard to ensure faith in our voting system in Marciopa County is well placed.

The election is over; the pandemic is not. We will take actions we believe best protect our residents, businesses, and health care community. Now is the time to work together to get through the COVID-19 crisis. This Board, state, and federal government have a duty to protect each and every person residing in Maricopa County. We take this responsibility seriously and will let facts and science guide us.
