COVID-19 Vaccinations Begin
|
|
Our healthcare heroes are on their way to being vaccinated for COVID-19! Many received the first of two doses of the vaccine today at two dispensing sites hosted by Banner Health and HonorHealth. This is a truly historic effort, and we want to thank all of our partners and volunteers for their work in administering vaccines safely and efficiently. The work continues tomorrow! |

Phase 1A Vaccinations
For Phase 1A of COVID-19 vaccine distribution, doses of the vaccine will be distributed to eligible healthcare personnel at five regional Points of Dispensing (PODs) across the county in conjunction with Abrazo Health, Banner Health, Dignity Health, HonorHealth, Mayo Clinic, and Valleywise Health. Two PODs opened today (Banner Health and HonorHealth); the other three will open on Monday.
Are you a frontline healthcare worker? See if you are eligible to get vaccinated and start the registration process by visiting Maricopa.gov/COVID19Vaccine1A. We are getting a lot of submissions, so please be patient as we work to schedule appointments.

How Will People Get Vaccinated In Phase 1B And Beyond?
Public Health expects as many as one million people will be eligible for vaccinations in Phases 1B and 1C, based on priority populations suggested in the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Playbook. Discussions about potential distribution methods of vaccine for these groups is ongoing. With such a large number of people to vaccinate, distribution may include vaccine availability at pharmacies and some large employers.

Vaccines and Allergic Reactions
It’s rare, but some people have allergic reactions to vaccines. At our POD sites, we have an observation area where we are asking people who are vaccinated to wait for 15 minutes so healthcare workers can monitor for any immediate reactions. That monitoring time is increased to 30 minutes for those who have previously had a serious allergic reaction to a vaccine. We have supplies and plans to treat such reactions if they were to occur.

FDA Panel Clears Way For Approval Of Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine
A second COVID-19 vaccine is one step closer to public distribution. This afternoon, a federal panel recommended that the FDA grant an Emergency Use Authorization to Moderna for its COVID-19 vaccine. If the FDA agrees, doses of the vaccine could arrive in Arizona in a matter of days.
