Holiday Parties And COVID-19 Risk
Holiday parties are typically a fun way to celebrate the season and connect with friends, coworkers, and loved ones. During the pandemic, they carry the risk of spreading COVID-19. A significant percentage of the spread—about 40%—comes from people who don’t display symptoms. Holiday parties, which often include large groups of people and close physical proximity, could potentially be “super spreader” events.
The safest way to celebrate holidays is to celebrate at home with the people you live with. If you are planning a holiday celebration, consider ways you can minimize risk such as gathering outdoors, limiting the number of people to allow for social distancing, encouraging guests to bring their own food and drink, and shortening the timeframe of the gathering.

Schools And COVID-19 Risk
Our school data dashboard will be updated tomorrow. Many school districts are expected to be in the substantial (red) category, given the increased spread of COVID-19 throughout the region. Schools and districts that still offer in-person learning should consider the following recommendations:
-
If one or more benchmarks in the substantial category for two or more weeks consult with Maricopa County Department of Public Health to determine whether to prepare to transition back to virtual learning with onsite support services.
-
If all three benchmarks are in the substantial category, it is recommended schools transition to virtual learning with onsite support services, in consultation with Maricopa County Department of Public Health.
To contact Public Health for guidance about when to prepare for a return to virtual learning, school officials can go here. Parents can contact Public Health here.
