What To Know About A Potential COVID-19 Vaccine
|
|
It’s encouraging to hear that we might be getting closer to an approved COVID-19 vaccine. To prepare, Public Health is working closely with Arizona Department of Health Services and local health care providers on a plan to roll out limited supply of a potential vaccine, starting with those at highest risk. We will have more to share in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you may have questions about how vaccines are made, how they work, and what precautions are being taken to ensure safety.

A Note About Today’s Case Numbers
You may notice we added more than 3,000 cases to the Maricopa County COVID-19 dashboard today, which is a significant amount more than usual. This is two days' worth of data. On Wednesday, November 10, County employees observed Veterans Day and no cases were added to the dashboard. Yesterday, Public Health reported the data from November 10. Today, Public Health is reporting the data from both November 11 and November 12, which totals 3,138 cases. Our regular 24-hour reporting of case data will resume tomorrow.

A Note About State Data Reporting Vs. County Data Reporting
Both Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Maricopa County Public Health report COVID-19 case totals each day for Maricopa County. You may notice that these numbers don’t match up, but this is not because we have different data sources. We are actually pulling data from the same source, we are just pulling that data at different times.

Mental Health
There’s no shortage of stress right now. You may be concerned about getting sick, or how you’ll pay the bills, or whether you’ll be able to see family and friends again, or any number of unknowns. On top of that, you’re being bombarded with information, and sorting truth from rumor can be a challenge. If all of this leaves you feeling stressed, anxious, or depressed, you’re not alone.
Here are three ways to prioritize your mental and emotional health:
-
Take care of your body: Get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and eat well
-
Take care of your mind: Keep a routine, make time for things you love, and limit screen time and media exposure
-
Connect with others: Find ways to talk regularly with friends and family, even if that’s from a distance through phone calls, video chats, or texts.
